I’ve been passionate social justice & global health issues since I was a wee hippie child back in the day. My radio and TV programming consisted of NPR & PBS, so naturally I knew a little more than my peers about what was going on in the world. I can vividly remember in second grade watching a segment on the rise of homeless Veterans in the US, so I decided to do what any normal 7 year old would do – make mugs for everyone in my basement.
Alright, alright – let me explain my ridiculousness. My mother was an elementary school art teacher, so we had loads of art supplies to feed my, errrr….’creativity’. I decided that the best use of all our clay was to make handmade mugs so everyone had a cup for water {just roll with me here}. I spent hours making barely functional mugs true works of art, that I planned to distribute across the country. Needless to say, I had the operational know-how of a 7 year old, so unfortunately my efforts were mostly in vein. I think we settled on donating my masterpieces to St. Vincent DePaul as a compromise, but let’s just say I never saw them on the shelves afterwords. A for effort? Sure. I like to think it was the thought that counts back then.
Now that I’m older, I try to find less messy & more interesting ways to support the causes & organizations I love. So when influential brands & designers come together to raise money for social causes, I am all about it. Plus, when the pieces they whip up are unbelievably gorgeous, I’m extra all about it! Shopbop’s most recent social change collaboration brings together Vogue & 22 top designers {including Tory Burch, J.Crew, Victoria Beckham, Prada & more} for their Born Free collection. These pretty pieces are the perfect way to kick off warmer weather while supporting Born Free, an organization that works to prevent mother to child transmission of HIV at birth.

If you were a hippy I would travel the world with you and even be willing to give up my precious chemical deodorant and use your handmade. Or whatever.
This is such a great concept from Shopbop, and the clothing is beautiful!
