braids on braids on braids.

I’ve always had a rather volatile relationship with my blond locks. Ever since I was little, I haven’t been able to do anything too impressive with my straw-like strands, so much so that my mother insisted I have all variations of the bowl cut as a toddler. And while I liked my baby blonds back in the day, being confused as a little boy on multiple occasions was not my cup of tea. I spent years growing out my baby bangs {oh hello butterfly clips & rainbow rubber bands!}, highlighting my hair once it turned from bleach blond to “dishwater blond” {a tragedy, really}, and spending hours upon hours in high school attempting to curl my hair for show choir and waiting for it to inevitably fall flat 5 minutes before curtain. Oye. Let’s just say there were lots of tears and projectile hair combs coming from the bathroom on a daily basis. Ahhh, the joys of being a teenager…
Flash forward to a few years later, and I’m still terrible when it comes to doing anything attempting my hair. While struggling with alopecia a few years ago, I didn’t think my hair would grow back after chopping it all off – so it’s been a pleasant surprise seeing it grow and stay put over the last few months. And while I want to sing and dance from the rooftops in celebration, I feel like my hair could still use a little styling love. The style of choice {and one that I can actually do with my straw-like tresses?} Braids on braids on braids! I’ve been pinning a few favorites on Pinterest lately and totally falling victim to hair envy…I mean, how could you not want to steal these girl’s looks? Give me a hair crown or waterfall braid and I’m one happy camper. Since we still have one lovely month of summer left, I’m going to attempt my best to get up a little earlier to attempt some of these styles during the week. Send good hair vibes my way, because this girl’s gonna need it.
Have any hair secrets or favorite styles this summer? Lay it on! I need some inspiration, yo! xx

I love doing braids in my hair, but my hair is pretty thin as of late. I find that if I do an inside-out braid (braiding under instead of over) my braid "stands" a little taller–then I pull it apart a bit to loosen it up/make it appear thicker!

I'm terrible at doing my hair. My sister is stylist at a salon here in KC and she is a master, but none of those genes rubbed off on me. My hair is also super dry and brittle, which makes it hard to tame! I think you have gorgeous locks! These braids remind me that I never accomplished that on my last list….

I have so many layers in my hair that braids never look perfect. Although some say "messy braids" with pieces flying out everywhere is chic, so I guess I should embrace that! haha

Good luck! My Molly American Girl doll STILL has her braids in because even as a little girl I knew I would never be able to put them back haha!

I'm sure you'll do a much better job than anything I've attempted.
    xoxo
