7 must have basic pieces.

Hey friends! Today, my lovely intern Zoe is chatting about the 7 wardrobe staples she couldn’t live without {and after looking over her list, I definitely don’t want to live without these either ;)} A big thanks to Zoe for putting this big ‘ole list together – she’s really the best.

I truly believe that every good wardrobe is built on a few basic staple pieces. Personally, I couldn’t live without anything on this list, each item is classic, and versatile – most of them I can incorporate into any season or occasion. These are also things I’ve had and kept in my closet throughout the years and actually still wear time and time again… which is great on a college budget too!

  1. Dark wash skinnies – There’s a reason these are number one on my list, I love a good pair, as they are extremely flattering and they go with everything from boots and a blazer in the fall to an oxford and sandals in the spring!
  2. Cardigans – These are so great for layering on when its cold, and are a nice jacket in the summer. Playing with fabrics, colors and patterns makes them even more fun too!
  3. Statement necklace – Everyone needs a bit of glam in their wardrobe, and a statement necklace does just that. Layer it on with a T-shirt and jeans during the day, and throw it on with your dress at night, and you’re good to go! The one above is my personal favorite right now.
  4. Little black dress – Okay, so no surprise here, but the right LBD really does make life so easy! Of course, the fit and fabric are totally up to you and your style, but in my experience the simpler the better, you can always modify your look depending on the occasion.
  5. Neutral flats – Yes, yes and yes! Pants, dresses, skirts, and shorts are all perfect for a great neutral ballet flat, I prefer a tan leather or nude. I also usually go for the pointy toe too… they elongate my short legs. (:
  6. Black/Navy blazer – A well fitted and structured blazer in either black or navy are fantastic additions to a closet. Perfect with jeans, dresses and skirts and shorts, they dress up an outfit enough for work, school or a night out, without too much effort. Plus, they are a timeless look!
  7. Riding boots – Definitely a personal favorite of mine and also definitely an investment piece for sure, but I find that I have definitely worn mine enough to pay for themselves ten times over.
Thanks for the advice Zoe! Ladies, what other basic pieces are your faves? Please share with the class! xx
