You know those crazy *pinch me* moments that come up from time to time? My latest happened last week, when I had the great pleasure of interviewing the lovely Kristen Cavallari about her new shoe line with Chinese Laundry and life in Chicago. As a total fan of Laguna Beach and The Hills back in the day, getting to actually chat with Kristen was a blast. Best of all? She was totally down to earth, sweet as can be, and has some fabulous fashion advice for fall.

1. What was your inspiration for your latest line with Chinese Laundry?

KC: Fall has always been my favorite tine of year – I’m such a fan of the weather, food, and trends. My inspiration was to keep my fall line of shoes that are trendy, affordable, and pieces that you’ll wear again and again (not the kind that you keep in the back of your closet!) Most everything in the line is under $200, with the exception of my over the knee boot.

2. What are your three favorite pieces in your closet right now?

KC: I just bought a pair of Frame jeans that I love. They’re a gorgeous dark grew color, which is perfect for fall. I also love the black Laney bootie, it’s the perfect everyday pair for fall. I also have a Rag & Bone fedora hat that I wear all the time – it goes with everything.

3. You’re able to balance so many roles in life – mother, wife, designer, business woman – what’s your secret to balancing it all?

KC: I’m fortunate in the fact that I’m able to make my own hours when I’m designing shoes in the collection. I’m able to work when they boys are napping, or once I’ve put them to sleep at night. One thing that I try to do is make sure to have date night with Jay as much as possible. When you’re balancing so many roles, sometimes your relationship is the first thing to go out the window. We make sure to catch a movie, or go out to dinner as much as we can.

4. Any movies on the list for the next week?

KC: I’m dying to see Gone Girl. I read the book and loved it – so I’m hoping the movie is just as good.

5. Your sons are adorable! What’s your favorite thing about them at this age?

KC: Thank you! I love that Cam (2 years) is starting to talk in phrases – he says the most adorable and hilarious things! He used to be so frustrated before, so it’s nice to see him come into his own and start to become more independent. Jaxon (5 months) is becoming a lot more aware of what’s going on around him, which is fun to see. I’m really appreciating the baby phase right now!

6. What’s your favorite little thing in life?

KC: Oooh, that’s a good question. I love fresh cut flowers from the grocery store. I always make sure to pick up a bouquet when I’m there.

7. Any guilty pleasures?

I’d say it was trashy t.v. – I love the Real Housewives! I haven’t been able to watch that much since Jaxon was born, so I’ll need to catch up on that soon! Otherwise I love making my own cashew milk ice cream. I’m sensitive to milk, so I make my own cashew milk and then make my own ice cream. It’s delicious, and tastes like the real thing!
