Thoughtful Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Good morning, friends! I can’t believe that we’re already well into April (where did the time go?) and are gearing up for it to officially be spring, and hopefully start feeling like spring, too. This “spring” in Chicago has been totally brutal this year, and I’m officially ready to defreeze and start enjoying the beautiful weather and the city again.

Now that we’re inching closer to sunnier days, there are a few big holidays on the horizon that I’m extra excited to celebrate – the first being Mother’s Day. I’ve written about my sweet mom on the blog before, but she’s really my #1 fan, supporter, shoulder to cry on, and best friend – so while I try to be nice to her every day, I love that Mother’s Day gives me the perfect excuse to celebrate her in a thoughtful way.I’ve done the typical flowers in the past, but this year I’ve decided to turn it up a notch. I always like to start by finding a Mother’s Day card that’s thoughtful but also feels personal, so this year I picked a few options from Target’s epic card section (it’s massive!) the day their Mother’s Day cards went on sale. I clearly like to plan things a little early, but they always have a huge selection of cards, even if you need to pick something up on the way to mom’s house the day of!

Going through all of the Mother’s Day cards at Target and seeing how there was such a variety of options made me feel inspired to create a more creative and personalized gift for mom this year too. I always think it’s so thoughtful when someone brings you a basket of goodies (whether it’s everything you need to make a recipe, a thoughtful hostess gift, etc.), so I decided that this year I was going to pull together a basket full of things my mom loves all around a certain theme (like tea, sweet treats, movie night at home, etc.).To get your creative juices flowing, I pulled together a few gift ideas you could customize for your mom, too! I’m not going to share what the final picks were for my mom’s basket since she usually reads my blog posts (I don’t want to totally ruin the surprise!), but hopefully she likes the idea as much as I did.

A Basket for the Tea Loving Mom

Maybe this is more specific to my relationship with my mom, but both of us love tea (I think she passed it on to me!). So, to feed her need for a few cups every day, I pulled together a few of our favorite things in this tea-lovers basket.  Write a personalized note in your favorite Mother’s Day card and maybe even pop in a gift card for you and mom to go on a tea or coffee date, too!

A DIY Spa Day Basket

Sometimes mom just needs a night off (and a spa night in!). Being a mom can be hectic at times, and it’s hard to find the time to relax and recharge. For moms who need a little spa night, I picked out a few little gifts like some nail polish options, fancy soaps, new makeup brushes, candles, and more, paired with a sweet card to remind her how much you care.

For the Cooking or Baking Obsessed Mom

For the mom who loves to cook, pull together a few new kitchen utensils, a cutting board, measuring cups, and ingredients for her next cooking adventure! For mom’s that have a sweet tooth, pick up a few cupcakes or tasty treats just in case she wants something that she doesn’t have to cook right away, too 😉

Hopefully you’re inspired to make something personal for you mom on Mother’s Day – it’s only a few weeks away! If you have any sweet Mother’s Day traditions or awesome gifts you’ve given in the past, I’d love to hear them, too. I can always use a little gifting inspiration!

Also, be sure to check out the Target App for a Cartwheel offer on Mother’s Day greeting cards between 4/29 - 5/13!
