Some things just go together, peanut butter jelly style. But some things you just wouldn’t think would go together: freshly brushed teeth and OJ, high heels and an ankle sprain, and Kombucha and cocktails. Well {as it surprisingly turns out}, the latter happens to be pretty darn good, especially when you have the right ingredients to make it delicious.
As a hippie at heart, I’ve always been a kombucha lover. Sure, the idea of fermented tea is pretty funky, but kombucha has so many incredible benefits such as aiding in digestion, immune support, detoxification {especially good after a fun weekend!}, liver support and even weight loss. I’ve tried many a kombucha, and I’m not going to lie to you – there are definitely some that are better than others. When I tried Clearly Kombucha a few weeks back, I was immediately smitten. Unlike some other kombucha’s I’ve tried in the past, it’s not too thick, or gummy, but it has a perfect, drinkable consistency and delicious taste combinations to match.
Here’s a recipe for the surprisingly delicious porch punch, made with a few of my favorite bar cart ingredients!
How to make the ultimate Kombucha Porch Punch (updates from yoga journal’s recipe)
– 2‑inch peeled fresh ginger, chopped very finely
– Ice to stir
– 1 tablespoon (½ ounce) freshly squeezed lime juice (about ½ of a lime)
– 1 tablespoon (½ ounce) freshly squeezed lemon juice (about ¼ of a lemon)
– 2 tablespoons simple syrup
– 6 tablespoons (3 ounces) kombucha (I loved to pair mine with raspberry ginger Clearly Kombucha)
– 6 tablespoons (3 ounces) vodka
– 5 dashes bitters
– Twist of lemon peel, to garnish
Place your finely minced ginger in the bottom of a cocktail shaker and press down with a muddler. Fill half the shaker with ice, and add the lime juice, lemon juice, kombucha, vodka, simple syrup and bitters. Shake well and pour the strained liquor into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a twisted peel of lemon if desired.
