weekend guide – new orleans, LA.

Today I’m sharing my wanderlust turned winter break vacay in New Orleans! My family and I jetted off during the holiday break and enjoyed exploring a new city & seeing the very impressive sights. I love that New Orleans is like a little slice of France meets country, meets Bohemia, meets Las Vegas {a little bit of everything? sign me up!}
Here are a few of my favorite must sees & do’s if you happen to find yourself in New Orleans.
1/ let me just say, the food in New Orleans is out of this world. From gumbo, to red beans & rice {my personal fave}, crayfish etouffee, and the list goes on and on and on. One of my favorite unconventional spots was District Donuts, Sliders and Brew at the top of Magazine St. Fancy donuts, the best sliders I’ve ever had, and seriously rad coffee. Check. It. Out.
2/ drinks on drinks on drinks! When in New Orleans, do as the Nawlanders do. We did the usual stops on Bourbon street, but I loved the happy hour martinis at the Bombay Club {hello $4 cosmos…}, mulled wine at Jager Haus, or any of the other local spots downtown.
3/ local music is beyond amazing in New Orleans. From street musicians to local stars – make sure to check out the cities music when you visit.
4/ Look up, down, and all around – the architecture in this city is unreal. New Orleans is known for it’s wrought iron balconies, shotgun houses and spanish, greek, gothic and french influence.  Take an architectural tour, or just enjoy the sights as you explore the city.
5/ voodoo is in full force in New Orleans in the form of museums & unique shops. I may or may not have snagged a few voodoo dolls while stopping in around the French Quarter 😉 Check out the herbal remedies, “authentic” curses & protectants, and good luck charms, they’ve got enough to last a lifetime!
6/ everyone loves a good trolly, especially a pretty trolly. Ride around on the St. Charles line to the WWII museum, down Magazine Street to visit the Avery Perfumery, or any of the tasty bakeries & everything in between.
Still have a bad case of wanderlust? Check out my last weekend guide in Louisville, Kentucky.

    New Orleans is one of my favorite cities! Amazing food, drinks, culture and it doesn't hurt that there's no container law. I loved seeing all of your instagram pics throughout the trip!

    Maya Maya Maya…let me count the ways I love you. First, I'm so glad you're back, I've missed you. Second, I hope you move went well. Third, I'm planning a trip to NOLA and this is epic. I can't believe how much amazing stuff you guys crammed into your trip and it sounds like you found some real gems. I don't even LIKE donuts, and those look unreal!

    All those food goodies look so good! I've never been to New Orleans, but a coworker used to live there/grew up there and she raves about it!

    I hope everything went smoothly with the move! I haven't been to New Orleans in a few years but every time I've been it's pretty much been lots of eating + drinking 🙂 Those donuts look delish!
