weekend guide: louisville, kentucky

Who doesn’t love a perfect weekend getaway? A few weekends back I road tripped with a friend over to Louisville Kentucky to spend a weekend in the south {eeeeerm, or what I thought was the south, evidently northern Kentuckians consider it the Midwest…but I digress}. It was an amazing weekend and I hit up a few fabulous places that I couldn’t help but share. Next time you find yourself in Louisville, check out a few of these hot spots, mmmkay?

1/ When I’m on vacation, all I want is new, fancy & tasty coffee. So one of my first stops was Please & Thank You coffee in the “New Lou” neighborhood, which was my favorite in the downtown area. Besides being adorable, the coffee was fabulous – I highly recommend the ‘miel’ honey latte. I’m still thinking about it now….mmmmm…..

2/ On the first day, we stopped at Hillbilly Tea for brunch and I munched on their delicious pancakes {with chai tea butter & pumpkin spice syrup. Can you say, yummy?}. The place was adorable and had the best tea and brunch in town, at least in my book. The perfect spot to spend the afternoon reading/working, or as a morning stop before more Louisville adventures!

3/ We stopped at Garage Bar for cheap drinks and the best thin crust pizza in town {my friend and I split the best butternut squash & pecan pizza which was so so good}.

4/ One of the highlights of the trip was our afternoon excursion to Woodford Reserve to learn about the wonderful world of Kentucky bourbon. Although I’m definitely not bourbon’s #1 fan, it was fascinating learning how they make it and seeing the gorgeous Kentucky countryside {and horses! There were so many pretty horses!}. Definitely a must see if you’ve ever in town.

5/ For a late night drink, Holy Grale was my favorite stop during the trip. The building is an old church that they turned into a bar {blasphemous? maybe. awesome? definitely}. They had an amazing selection of beers on tap, and the food looked pretty incredible too. Definitely a must see for the ambiance alone!

6/  To top off my eating adventures through Louisville, we stopped at Cellar Door for some dark chocolate salted caramels – which were probably the best chocolate I’ve ever had. I’m a little temped to ask my friend to bring them back every time she goes home from here on out…they are too good to pass up!

Next time you find yourself in Louisville, try a few of these spots out and let me know your thoughts! I’m going to try and post more city guides in an attempt to get myself to travel more – so hopefully that will work out in my favor 😉
