The quote above is one of my favorite quotes of all time – and has become a mantra to me. When you’re a twenty something trying to find your place in the world, the power of kindness is incredibly important…both the kindness you show to others and the kindness that’s shown to you. Working hard is a given too – we stretch ourselves to the limits to make ends meet, to get noticed, and to give us hope that things can get better with a little hard work and determination {and blood, sweat and tears…or so it feels like some days!}
Sometimes the combination of working hard and being nice is hard – especially when you’re overworked, tired, and ready to implode. So, even though I’m not a mean person by any stretch, this little reminder helps me become a little kinder, a little more flexible, and helps me continue to work hard to keep moving forward.
Good things happen when you combine the two – or that’s what I’m hoping at least…

Very true! It's especially important in the workplace and professional world not to burn bridges- so many 20-somethings seem to do that.
So true! Wise words indeed. I'm a huge believer in the power of kindness. No one wants to work with a grump, anyways. Having a positive outlook and being nice can really make or break any environment, especially work!

I could not agree more–"be kind to people" is something my parents always reinforce to me, and I make a strong effort to act the way I'd like to be treated.
