Madewell Booties {similar} // Striped Dress {similar} // Trench // Vintage Hermés Scarf // Tory Burch Satchel // Kendra Scott Bracelet
Go ahead and call me basic because basics are my jam – especially during the fall and winter. Whether it’s stripes {and yes, it’s usually stripes!}, polka dots, solid colors or iconic pieces – I can’t help but fall in love with the basics that I wear over, and over, and then over again.
I used to struggle with acquiring perfect basics, but now that everyone’s all about a minimalist wardrobe it’s becoming easier to cull down without sacrificing style. This classic trench {originally owned by my friend Erin before she recently moved cross country} has always been a piece I’ve wanted to add to my wardrobe, and now I totally get why people splurge on this Burberry number. I’ve been wearing it day after day without shame 😉 The real star of this outfit through is this vintage Hermés scarf that was passed down from my sweet grandmother years ago. My grandmother was a very sweet and stylish woman who I was really close to while growing up – we spent our nights cheating at cards, eating big bowls of ice cream and goofing around. I called her my “blood brother” when I was itty bitty, only because I didn’t exactly know what that meant, but it seemed like a cool thing to call someone at the time. In true fashion, she embraced it, laughed it off and shared a super secret handshake to celebrate. She called everything “charming” {even me when I was far from it}, which is how this little blog name came to be. Grandma’s – they’re just the best and I miss both mine dearly. When my grandma passed away a few years ago, I started to realize that her sense of fashion was pretty incredible too – something I didn’t really get when I was more concerned with root beer floats than style. She loved fancy scarves and she had quite the amazing collection of Gucci and Hermés scarves, a few of which I still have and love today. Sometimes those meaningful, anything but basic pieces get the chance to shine when you’re rocking a few classic pieces in the process.
i LOVE this outfit! xo jillian – cornflake dreams
I love the stripe and trench combo. So far from basic for sure!
