Happy Monday, friends! Can you believe May is almost over already?! I seriously can’t believe how quickly this month flew by, but I would lie if I said I wasn’t excited to be a few days closer to summer. It was a little rainy this past weekend {and looks like it’s going to continue a bit in the coming days}, so any sunshine in sight would be much appreciated 😉
I spent the weekend with my mom and grandpa at his home in Bloomington, IL and it was so fun to catch up with a few of my favorite people. There’s nothing like a little family time, and it was so nice to catch up and walk around the town with my grandpa after not seeing him for so many months. He’s always been such an inspiration to me, and he even inspired me years ago to think about working in advertising since he had worked at a Chicago agency for 35 years before he retired. He was a bit of a Chicago agency legend, and got the chance to travel all across the world for one of the global clients he worked on for so many years.
Who knew that over 20 years later, I’d be on my own crazy working journey, working in advertising and at agencies in the same city. He always makes sure I give him the lowdown on what’s going on at the office whenever I visit him, musing about the stories of his adventures so many years ago. It kinda melts my heart and makes me so appreciative that he’s been such a role model for me in my own career. Grandpa’s are really the best, and I’m so thankful for him.
We spent a lot of the weekend at antique stores since my mom was in the market for a new moroccan rug, and I picked up a few things that I fell in love with while exploring the shops. I also picked up a bar cart I scored on Everything But The House a few weeks back, which I was SO excited to bring home with me and add to my living room – it’s gold, glass, and oh-so-pretty. I’m hoping to put together a post once it’s all styled and ready to go, but in the meantime I’ll probably share some behind the scenes action on Insta-stories 🙂 Okay, so in other news, last week I chatted about one of my new favorite staples – trench coats, and shared that I borrowed Kira’s which inspired me to get my own! I wanted to buy a Burberry beauty, but I definitely couldn’t afford the $1700 version {yikes!}. So instead, I opted for this beauty from Club Monaco that’s double-lined and fits like a dream. I’m so in love with it and even though it was a bit of a splurge, it’s definitely been worth it – and I’ve been wearing it every time it rains.
Your trench coat is so lovely! The Burberry trenches are lovely, but they’re definitely investment pieces! I’ve been rocking a Banana Republic trench coat for about 6 years now. It works. Sounds like you had a great weekend- family time is the best!
Right?! I love a good trench, but DANG Burberry! I love that you found one for a steal at Banana! xx
Awe, what a sweet weekend that you had! So nice that you and your grandpa share a career passion. This outfit is adorable, as always! xx
Awww thank you lady! It’s nice to hear about how advertising worked in the 60’s and compare it to today. He just figured out how to use Facebook and leaves the most hilarious comments, haha! Hope you had a fun weekend too!
