Striped Pencil Skirt // Classic T-Shirt // Black Clutch // Metallic Lace Up Heels {similar}
I’ll let you in on a little secret…
I’m not a big fan of getting dressed up.
I mean, I definitely wished I felt excited to wake up every morning and open my closet to hundreds of wonderful dress and skirt options, but the truth is I usually dread whenever I have to get dressed up for anything – be it a wedding, an important client meeting, or date night, I usually cringe when I have to get all dolled up. Besides not being particularly inspired by my closet, dresses and skirts have a bad reputation for me of being uncomfortable, bunching when I’m sitting at my desk at work {and leaving some serious wrinkles}, feeling a little too tight after a Chipotle burrito bowl, and kinda a pain in ass since most of them are dry clean only. My dream outfit consists of a comfy pair of jeans, flats and a t-shirt because honestly, I’d much rather be comfortable most days than super chic.
I kinda feel guilty a little bit, knowing that as a “blogger” I should probably relish the idea of getting dressed up – but honestly, it feels like so much work somedays. I’m pretty lucky that I work in an agency where it’s completely socially acceptable to wear jeans most days {even to client meetings, hallelujah!} so I don’t feel the pressure to be super dressed up too much of the time. On those days or occasions I do have to get all dressed up, I usually try to meet somewhere in the middle of dressed up and casual. Don’t get my wrong, I’ll definitely don a dress for a wedding – but when it comes to more “dressed up” days at work or events, I try to rock something that’s both comfy and dressed up enough to count as somewhat fancy. A few months ago, I scored this little striped skirt from Club Monaco, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite go-to pieces for when I want to get “dressed up” without sacrificing comfort. Paired with a comfy t-shirt {and even a blazer for a work meeting!}, it’s the best way to feel like a real adult without feeling uncomfortable at my desk all day long. Oh and heels – you can’t forget about heels, they always make an outfit more fancy, right? Since lace up season is officially here, these metallic heels from Top Shop are making a comeback this season, and I couldn’t be happier. Tom says they look like old lady space shoes, but I’ll wear them unabashedly all season long 😉
I hope you’re all looking forward to a fun weekend ahead! I’m planning on getting together with my girlfriends, spending Sunday night cooking dinner {one of my favorite date nights with Tom} and trying to be productive in between. I hope you all have a lot to look forward to too! xx
