Kicking Acne to the Curb

Do you ever have those days where you wake up Beyoncé flawless? You get out of bed 10 minutes before your alarm, slink on into your bathrobe, take the most glorious shower {complete with the hallelujah chorus}, and then you make your way to mirror…to see a big pimple staring right back at you?

Sign. Adult acne is just totally unfair, on so many levels. I thought for some reason that by the time I hit the 20 I’d never have acne again. And yet…despite my wild hope and dreams, every so often a little “buddy” comes back to say, “Hey you! Yes you! I’m here to ruin your day!” The struggle is so real, yet so many of us are all in the same struggle bus together.

But don’t completely give up hope yet! There are a few easy ways to kick that acne to the curb. I’ve been using all the below over the  years, and I  promise – they’re worth giving a go. Skincare-Papayavia

 Papaya Homemade Face Mask:

You’ll need:

• 1/4 ripe papaya

• 1 tablespoon Honey

• 1/2 tablespoon Lemon

Blend all the ingredients together in a blender together into a fine paste. Apply the mixture onto clean skin and let sit for 15-20 minutes.Rinse off with warm water, a splash cold water afterwords to close and cleanse your pores. Skin-egg white maskvia

 Egg White Mask:

You’ll need:

• 2 egg whites

• 1/2 a tablespoon of honey

• 1/2 lemon juice

Whisk together your two egg whites until they’re nice and frothy. Add a 1/2 tablespoon squirt of honey to the mixture. Once mixed, add juice of half a lemon to finish. Brush on the mixture onto your face and wait for 30 minutes to dry. Rinse with warm water, and add lotion to moisturize, and you’ll see your skin glow afterwords! Skin-lemonsvia

Clean your skin with lemon and honey:

What you’ll need:

• Half a lemon

• A drizzle of honey

Take half a sliced lemon and cover it with honey. Take your lemon half and rub your face with it, focusing primarily on where you have more concentrated acne. Leave the mixture on for no longer than 5 minutes, and rinse with lukewarm water. You’ll see your pores almost immediately shrink and your skin will be glowing to boot!Skin-Berries-2via

Another way to beat acne – eat foods that you already love {and kick that pesky pimple to the curb in the process!} One of my favorite ways is to eat lots and lots of berries, which are known for their magical anti-oxidant powers. Blueberries are especially wonderful, and chock full of pectin which help clear intestinal toxins that are known to contribute to acne flare ups. Plus, they’re super delish – so it’s basically a win-win, right?Skin-honey-maskvia

Honey Masks:

What You’ll Need:

• Just use more raw, filtered honey – rather than traditional cooking honey.

Since honey has antimicobial and antioxidant properties, it’s perfect as a stand alone mask to help clear up your skin. Apply the honey to your face and let dry for up to 5 minutes. Remove honey with lukewarm water, and then splash cold water. You’re skin will be super smooth, soft and glowing.

And when all else fails – go for the good stuff! Growing up when my acne was really terrible, I always swore by Proactiv to kick my acne to the curb. I remember watching the infomercials back in the day and feeling skeptical, but I totally succumbed to peer pressure and you know what, it totally worked. I used the Original 3-Step system, but now there are so many other incredible products that work just as well too. Whenever my acne is getting crazy, I always reach back for my favorite Practiv products for a quick fix to clear my tired, stressed skin. And you know what, years later it continues to work!

A big thank you to Facing Acne for making this post possible! If you’re struggling with acne, definitely check out their site for more tips, tricks and recommendations. They round up their favorite products and give real, honest reviews of what will work best for your skin! If only it was around when I was an extra-pimply 16 year old, but hey – better to find it sooner than later, right? 😉
