The Lipstick Index

Lately I’ve been trying to save money, which is not an easy task for me… I’ve been steering clear of Target, pretending that J.Crew doesn’t have online shopping, and being a bit more resourceful with mixing and matching some of my older clothes. One thing I can’t shake as I attempt to be frugal is an odd craving for new lipstick.
Do I usually wear lipstick? no.
Do I need lipstick? no again.
So why the hell am I craving lipstick now?
Turns out I’m not crazy {yay!}, but there’s a pretty legitimate reason – the Lipstick Index…
“The lipstick index is a term coined by Leonard Lauder, chairman of the board of Estee Lauder. Lauder made the claim that lipstick sales could be aneconomic indicator, in that purchases of cosmetics – lipstick in particular – tend to be inversely correlated to economic health. The speculation was that women substitute lipstick for more expensive purchases like dresses and shoes in times of economic distress.”
Even though I’m not in complete financial distress, saving money does make me avoid larger purchases, giving me reason to crave smaller items like lipstick. If by the end of the week I still have a crazy lipstick craving, I might have to give into it and purchase one of these bad boys below {and hopefully I won’t buy out the whole store…}

    I try to have one of every shade- which leads me to buying SO many lipsticks. Some I don't even use or like! But yes, it's totally a substitute for more expensive things!

    Haha I'm totally with you, Maya. I buy lipsticks all the time, especially when I need a little mood boost. That FACE Stockholm shade looks super pretty!

    That's an interesting statement. I think it makes sense, it's like a little luxury. Like treating yourself to Starbucks. One little lipstick won't hurt πŸ˜‰

    Haha OMG this is so true!! Last year when I started to try to be more conscious of my clothing/shoe/bag purchases I ended up buying more makeup than I ever have in my life! That Ilia color is so pretty and I'm pretty sure I don't own anything like it…

    Walking the aisle in a very church, you become the centerpiece of every-ones attention. The day you are actually dreaming of lives for a expectations. Since childhood, you have played wedding games and after this, you purchased the best karen millen outlet for dresses that you just found and people anyone meet cannot stop speaking about that beautiful dress you wore on the special day.

    Vast fit louboutin pas cher shoes are increasingly available in england, across Europe and America these days. In the past, if you wanted sneakers with extra width, you had to make them custom made that is undesirable due to waiting period and also the elevated costs involved.
