After the festive chaos of the
holidays is over, I find myself ready to renew and reinvigorate my wardrobe and
beauty regimen for a new year. Maybe it’s the winter weather in Wisconsin, or
one too many holiday cookies talking, but I find that January 1st
brings with it the much needed reminder that I need to break my current routine
and fully embrace the change that 2013 will bring. Here are my go to new years
transformations that get me back on track for a fabulously fashionable new
year.

Consolidate and clean out –
For me, my new years revamp starts
in my closet where it’s out with the old and in with the new. Although it’s
painful at times, I try my best to keep with these two rules: 1. “If you
haven’t worn it in 8 months, it’s time to get rid of it”, and 2. “If it hasn’t
fit in a year, it’s best to part ways.” I know, I’m not a huge fan of these
rules either, but it helps me prioritize the pieces in my closet. Being choosey
about my wardrobe ensures that I’m wearing every piece I own and not letting
anything hide in the outskirts of my closet, never to be seen again!

Wardrobe essentials checklist –
If you’re not sure what to toss and
what to keep while you’re renewing your closet, keep in mind that everyday
basics are key to a versatile wardrobe. When it comes down to it, I will almost
always choose to keep a seasonal print and toss the ‘boring’ black tee, but it
usually turns out that I regret my choice later in the year. Make sure you’ve got a good amount of basic to even out your wardrobe {and layer throughout the season}

Skin Salvage –
My skin is legitimately angry at me
during this time of year. Between the brutal winds and freezing temperatures,
my skin isn’t willing to compromise with me without a little TLC. After
neglecting my skin for the earlier part of the winter, I’m going all out this January
with a new skin regimen to bring some life back into my skin. My favorite skin
essentials are the Clinique skin care line with a gentle cleanser, refreshing
toner and perfectly hydrating moisturizer, without them my skin does not cooperate!

Undergarment revamp –
It may sound silly – but the right
pair of underwear can make you feel like you’re ready to kick ass and take names. If you’re like me
and dread spending money on them, make sure you have at least enough pairs for the week that you
love (and I mean love) in varying
colors. Obviously practical colors and shades are the best – but without color, your underwear drawer is kinda a bore. love Cosabella and Gap Body pieces – they always last and make it through the
washing machine, which is a huge must!

What are your wardrobe/beauty essentials for the new year? I’m always diggity down for some new products and tips to try! xx
I seriously need to do a closet purge and toss the items I'm not going to wear. Cosabella and Gap Body are two of my favorites too- such soft and pretty lingerie!
Love this post Maya! I definitely feel like I need to clean out my closet, I'm such a pack rat because I have the hardest time parting with items…I know it's silly. That ceramic egg carton is a genius way of displaying (and organizing) earrings and rings! I couldn't agree more about the right pair of underwear making you feel like you can concur the world! I'm in love with the bra you posted, but then again it is lace so I shouldn't be surprised! As for your wardrobe essentials, that's probably my biggest fashion focus for this year; there are still a few items I need to find (like a fitted black blazer with long enough sleeves) but I'm in love with pretty much everything in that picture! I think you should just send me the link to each piece so I can buy it all!

LOVE THIS! My skin hates me right now… for real, it is bad 🙁 And I definitely need to update my undergarments 🙂 Been awhile and it certainly makes you feel good!
Such a great post. I agree with all of this. In regards to the closet purge, I read that on Jan 1 you should turn all your hangers around the opposite way, then by the end of the year, the ones you haven't turned back around (meaning you haven't worn that piece), go. And I wish I could afford to get all new bras 🙁 They're so freakin expensive!

It's actually a ceramic egg crate – I got mine from Home Goods 🙂
First of all, I love that you put underwear on this list. That's one of the things I want to invest in next – some really nice pairs that I feel lovely in. 🙂
Isn’t That Charming.
Those are great resolutions! I've been trying to stock up on wardrobe essentials every time I go shopping, because you need them to usually make a nice outfit! Also, my skin gets very dry this time of year too, I was thinking of trying that Clinique moisturizer,I heard it was great.
And also, to answer your question on my blog about where I got my scarf and flats, The scarf is from this etsy shop:

And the flats are from accessorize.com! 🙂
Yay! Loved those so much – I am going to have to check them out! xx!
