Let’s talk abut goals….

via

Warning: I’m a total a goal nut.
It all started when I had the opportunity to work at lululemon athletica in the summer of 2010 in the Madison showroom. I was home from college for the summer and thought a job that combined two of my favorite things {yoga + fashion} would be the perfect for some time away from the stress of school. Unlike most retail jobs I’ve worked before, working at lululemon changed my life – as silly as that may sound. Besides selling the best workout apparel, lululemon promotes goal setting, living your best life, and free yoga for all – talk about an amazing company!
So at the start of every year since, I make it a priority to take time to reflect on the past year and set new goals for the next. I love goal setting and have seen the way it can absolutely change your life {as it has mine}.

If you’re ready to take the plunge {and haven’t already}, here are some ways to create goals that you can stick to and keep you on track for your future major goals – or big hairy audacious goals as lululemon likes to refer to them as!

Setting Goals –

1) First, figure out your vision – where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Are you working as an editor of a major magazine? Directing Kate Spade’s social media? Happily being a stay at home mother with 4 fabulous kids? Whatever your big goals may be, think of these as your starting point that all other goals lead to. Think of these in extreme detail – where are you sitting and what does it looks like? Where are you living/ how are you living? Make it so vivid that you can see it all when you close your eyes.

2) Start writing your more immediate goals in 1, 5 and 10 year increments based on the most important core segments of your life {family, work, health, career, personal, etc.} Make sure that your goals build off each other and lead to your ultimate 10 year vision statement, making it seem not so audacious!

And when you’re ready to take the plunge {again, if you haven’t already} make sure that you write your goals down, and look at them everyday. lululemon has come up with this fabulous goals sheet {here} that’s fabulously organized and help you stay on track! I would love to hear some of your goals for 2013 if you’re willing to share πŸ™‚

Tomorrow, I’ll share some of my goals for 2013 – I’m so excited to get started on them!

This is such great advice. I am one of those people who let's go of resolutions simply because they're always so wishy-washy in nature. I love the idea of making very definite, time-sensitive goals!

Can we just talk about how I'm dying to work at lululemon? I have a serious addiction to their items and love the philosophy around the company. Great tips on goal setting!

love this!! goals especially loft ones are fine but are they attainable and i think some of the suggestions will help to set milestones along the way saying i will achieve this goal by (insert time) rather than i will achieve the goal period

Ok first off as you know, I'm totally jealous that you worked for Lulu! That was something I would have loved to have done a few years ago! I love your guide to goal setting, when I set mine I remember the acronym SMART for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time Framed. Can't wait to see what your goals are for 2013!!
