Breaking The Rules Is Half The Fun.

1-bettyThe first rule of fashion: There are no rules.

…Okay, so that’s a total lie, you caught me. But really, if you ask me {which, I know you’re not…} I would say that it’s kinda true. I’m living my life by “the are no rules” theory, and I’m here to cordially invite you to join me. Are you in? Let’s play. 9First things first, there are colors that you’re absolutely never, ever are supposed to mix and match. Take navy and black for example…or black and tan…or navy, black and tan together. Or, just see Exhibit A above, the typical example of mixing and matching a little bit of everything in your closet.

But this fall I’ve thrown fashion rules to the curb, and you know what? It’s actually been completely thrilling – and have made for some of my absolute favorite outfits. Even though I’m defying fashion logic, I can’t help but kinda like the outcome, even though I’m sure Rachel Zoe would shake her head disapprovingly  (but hey, Iris Apfel would be pumped!}122-bettyMix metals, because you’re a badass – and that’s what badasses do. Silver? Check. Gold? Check. Dusted bronze? Double check. Following rules means being matchy matchy in the fashion department, but sometimes your favorite accessories don’t go together. And, it turns out – that’s okay. Something as silly as matching metals is something only you’ll notice, not that cute boy sitting across the el from you {hey-yo!} Considering most guys don’t notice when you have a life changing haircut, mixing metals is totally going to fly. Plus, you’ll be wearing all your favorite pieces, and fashion confidence is the best medicine for looking super fly. 115-Vera Bradley-Clutch Oh, and not to get all deep on you for a Monday, but another thing I’ve learned the past few months that I’ve been kinda thinking on lately. Even though you want life to have rules, there really aren’t too many of them. I live by a few myself {my personal mantra of “work hard and be nice to people” are kinda the ones I have about life}, but everything else is kinda in the air. I always envisioned accomplishing certain things by a certain age, whether it was becoming the Beyoncé of the corporate social media world {cough cough, not a thing…}, 7-Lauren-hope-bracelet 4-Charmingly-styled-Chicago-bloggerOutfit details: J.Crew Sweater {Similar} // J.Crew Blazer // Studded Purse c/o Vera Bradley // Joe’s Skinny Jeans {on sale!} // Lucky Brand Leather Boots {similar} // Loren Hope Bracelet {Similar options here} // J.Crew Venus Necklace
