taking a breather.

Guys, I have BIG news! I’m doing something I don’t usually do, even when I try really hard…
*drum roll please*
I’M TAKING A VACATION – LIKE, A REAL VACATION!
I know, I know – it’s hard for me to believe too, but I’m excited to spend a few days in Portland Oregon this week and next to explore the Pacific Northwest. I’ve always wanted to go, and my boyfriend Jimmy gave me the nudge when he started talking about the possibility of checking it out a few months back. It’s been hard to get away with blogging, a more than full time job and some fun freelance opportunities that have been keeping me busy. While I’m so thankful to be able to do what I love with so many aspects of my life – sometimes it just gets to be a bit too much, and that’s when a vacation is in order.
I’m planning to unplug from my emails, put away my phone {minus some Instagrams of course} and really focus on exploring a new city and taking some much needed time for myself. Jimmy’s already planned a week full of adventures {a trip to the coast, hiking by Mount Hood, and exploring everything the city of Portland has to offer}, so I’m excited to say sayonara to Chicago for at least a few days. But don’t worry, I’ll be back with lots of stories, photos and hopefully a few new pieces to add to my wardrobe 😉
Any tips from anyone who lives or has visited Portland? We’re pretty open to trying new places, so any advice is much appreciated! See you guys next week, and enjoy your weekend 🙂 xx

You deserve it! I hope you have the best time. And you better not respond to the email I'll be sending you soon until you get back…or else 😉

There are so many fun places in Portland. The hubs and I live on the west side, so that's what we're more familiar with. We love the Pearl District – Oven & Shaker is our favorite for wood-fired pizza, kale salad, and the BEST drinks. Deschutes and 10 Barrel are good for food and microbrews. NW 23rd Street is another favorite for window shopping and ice cream at Salt & Straw. Oh, and check out Meadow – they sell flowers, chocolate, salt, and bitters/vermouth and that's it. :o) There's a ton of stuff on the east side, but I'm just not as familiar with it. I have recently been to Jam for brunch and Stormbreaker Brewing and both were great! Breakside Brewing also has really great food and microbrew beer. There are tons of things to do, too. I have kids, so I usually end up at the zoo. :o) Going for a drive to Multnomah Falls is totally worth it and you could try and go berry picking somewhere on Sauvie Island. Hope you have fun! It's gonna be hot this weekend!
