Fringe Shorts {true to size!} // Bauble Earrings // Tom’s Heels {they’re so comfy, you can wear them for hours!} // Scalloped Crop Top {from last season, but similar here and here} // Vanlentino Purse {sold out, but love these ones here and here}
For the longest time, I really didn’t feel like fancy shorts were a “thing” – maybe because I’ve only ever really worn jean shorts in the summertime {and to be totally honest, I’ve pretty much had one pair of jeans I’ve worn religiously over the last 2+ years}. But a few weeks ago when I had an event in LA with work, I was desperate to try to find something cool enough to L.A. but also breezy enough since it was 90 degrees the week I was there. Plus, to add to the pressure, I was going to be with a few of my favorite food bloggers I’d been fan-girling about for years, so I wanted to pretend that I was extra-cool and stylish in an “oh, this thing thing?! Oh, I’ve had this for years and I just threw it on” kinda way.
So, as you’d guess – panic ensued when I put off going shopping and waited until the day of to go shopping for something I could wear. I ended up running around Lincoln Park, trying on dresses and rompers at every boutique that was open on Armitage and Halstead. After almost completely giving up, I ran into my friend Ali’s store, Alice & Wonder, and explained my serious predicament – and within minutes she came back with these adorable, fringe shorts to pair with a crop top and heels for the big event. To be honest, I was a little skeptical that I could make dressed up shorts a thing, but the moment I put them on I totally fell in love. They’re so chic, comfortable and cool for those crazy hot days where you really don’t want to be wearing anything that sticks to your body. Anyways, I’m extra-thankful that Ali saved the day and helped me put this little number together, just in time for my trip. Speaking of, it’s been so crazy over here that I haven’t been able to catch up on my post-LA trip – I feel like I’ve been in a constant game of catch up with work, and life and everything in between. Anyways, it was fun but completely exhausting – we had a photo shoot for work at 5AM the day after we landed, a ton of projects all happening at the same time, and then a big influencer dinner that we captured some real-time content for throughout the party. It was just a reminder that every time you see a little brand event in your Instagram, there’s usually a few people running around like crazy trying to capture it all {and this time the crazy person was me!} Also, can we all have a little giggle at the fact that I got deodorant all over my shirt right before I got these photos taken? Just another reminder that behind every Instagram is a girl {aka, me!} who totally doesn’t have her shit together. It’s a never-ending struggle, so as much as we all may seem like we have it together on the ‘gram, real life is a lot less glamorous, but hey – still pretty good 😉
I’m kind of obsessed with this outfit. It’s so glam and cool! Perfect for your California event. Also, I’m loving your shorter locks these days!
Super cute, Maya! I love the black and white! And those shoes too! Adorable.
