Gooooood morning, friends! Today I thought I would do a little something different and share what my typical day looks like {because I always love to hear what other people’s looks like – especially working crazy-different jobs!}
So here’s a little sneak peek of a typical day in the life – working in advertising, blogging on the side, and squeezing in some other freelance work here and there {oh, and trying to have a social life too!}
- 7:45: Good morning{ish}. This is the time that I should get up, but I usually hit the snooze button for a solid 15-30 more minutes. Since I’m literally the worst at mornings, snoozing is one of my super special skills {but not one I put on my resume 😉 }
- 8:15: Drag my booty out of bed and head to the kitchen to get my morning started. I’m usually pretty bad at making breakfast {due to the usual sleeping in}, so I always try to make something quick and delicious {and it has to be easy too since I’m the world’s worst cook!}. Lately I’ve been making an OLLY Smoothies {my favorite is their new Pure Chocolate nourishing flavor}, which is chock-full of vitamins to kick start my day. I mix my shake with a banana, a scoop of ice and 8 oz. of water and it tastes delicious – and actually keeps me full until lunch!
- 8:45: After getting my booty in gear, I head out the door and take the El to the Merchandise Mart {or around there} to get to work. Usually I have a nice little walk around downtown Chicago where I get to walk by the river front and wake up a little bit before making it into the office
- 9:15 {ehhh….more like 9:30}: I get to work and check my emails since I’ve usually missed a handful between bedtime and my morning. I work at Ogilvy & Mather in their social media department {woot woot!} on Corona Light and Modelo brands, so even at 9:30 in the morning I already have beer on my mind. Not a bad way to kick off the day though, right?
- 10:00: I hit up our office barista {yes, we have an office barista which is the most maaaagical thing in the world} before usually heading to a day full of meetings. I usually order a non-fat vanilla latte and talk to the barista like we’re BFFs {it’s usually a good idea to become besties with your barista if you want to stay caffeinated all day!}
- 12:30: I’ve usually knocked out a few clients meetings, regroups and have officially caught up on my emails – so I either have a few minutes to run and pick up lunch in the mart or pick up something on our floor. I typically eat at my desk while working on a few thing, or scarf down a sandwich during meetings.
- 4:30: After a few more meetings I usually try to take a quick walk to get a little more energy. For the days where I can’t make that happen, I usually make a killer snack {like these protein balls below} or something from my secret stash in my desk drawer with all the healthy-ish snacks I can hide 😉
- 6:30: Escape from work just in time to take the el home, or meet up with a friend for drinks or dinner. There are a dangerous amount of delicious places for dinner or drinks in downtown Chicago that usually tempt me away from making my own dinner at home – whoops!
- 7:30: On nights when I don’t meet up with friends, I’ll try to get home at a reasonable time and plow through work – be it getting some extra blogging done, answering work emails and writing a few freelance articles or work before crashing. I typically try to work without turning on the TV, but I typically get sucked into binge watching a few episodes {or 4} on Netflix. Currently I’ve been watching way too many episodes of Parenthood – please don’t spoil any of the details though, I’m only on the first season!
- 10:30/11: I typically try to go to bed, spending a few minutes reading something to calm my slightly frantic mind down before bed {working all day erryday can do that to a gal!}. Currently on my nightstand is Shonda Rhimes “A Year Of Yes”, which is the perfect, inspiring read to get me a little inspired before bed. That woman is something fierce – can we all grow up to be that awesome?!
And then I do it all over again – just like all you do too 😉 But I’m pretty darn lucky to live a pretty good life, filled with work I love and people who are by far my favorite.
What does your typical day look like? I hope for your own sake that you wake up a little earlier than I do in the morning 😉
In other news – you could win a slew of epic prizes {and smoothie mixes} from OLLY when you check out their site! Plus, you’ll get $5 off just for entering, which is basically like a win-win!
A special thanks to OLLY for sponsoring this post! Opinions are my own, thanks for supporting the brands that make Charmingly Styled possible!
Maya, such a fun post! I love that you walk around downtown before actually heading into the office. 🙂
Such a great post 🙂 My day starts a bit earlier – I try to be up by 6 during the week (but sometimes I’m not so successful). Love the idea of a 4:30 walk to keep energy up!
