Why It’s Good To Be A Girl

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of hosting a little shindig with my girl Lauren of Lake Shore Lady at Vera Bradley in Water Tower Place while celebrating their fall collection and their new campaign championing why it’s good to be a girl. Besides showcasing our favorite fall styles {and even sharing them on their Facebook page for a LIVE event!} we got to share why we think it’s good to be a girl, which turned out to be a much harder question than it may seem {aka, how can we name just one?!}. To be honest, when my friend Holly asked us to share a reason on their cute little blackboard – I had a total brain freeze. Obviously there are a million awesome reasons, but thinking of one that encapsulated all of those reasons {and on the fly!} was a bit of a struggle. I powered through, but felt like I could have filled up a million boards with even better reasons.

So I thought I’d take the conversation to CS today and share a few more reasons why being a girl is pretty awesome. I could go on and on and on, but I’m going to try to keep it down to just a few key points 😉 maya25 maya26

1. You have no limits. As Lauren wrote for her reason, women have the power to be soft, but fierce, tough but kind, and exist within dichotomies without having to choose.

2. We have some pretty killer role models. I mean, Beyoncé? Malala? Mindy Kaling? Hilary Clinton? How lucky are we to have some truly incredible women continue to pave the way for us and break down barriers that were so real just years ago? Badass girls make way for other badass girls, and that’s good for everyone.

3. We get to express ourselves in so many fun ways – but only in ways that we want to, too! If we want to dress up and feel beautiful we can do it with ease and as much enthusiasm as spending the night in with a top knot and PJs (where we can feel beautiful too!).

4. We have female intuition, which I’m pretty sure is a very legit thing. I’m happy that I’ve learned to trust my gut over the last few years – and it’s definitely becoming easier with every passing year.

5. You get to have girlfriends – which is pretty much the greatest thing on the planet. There’s nothing more powerful than the bond of girlfriends, and I’m lucky to have so many inspirational and kick-ass ladies in my life. From my friends who I look up to professionally, and as mothers, sisters and friends – I’m lucky that I have so many ladies inspiring me to be a better version of myself (and always cheering me on!)

maya27 maya29 6. We can run a board room – and do it in 4 inch heels. And we could probably run a few blocks in them too if we really needed to. I’ve been caught running around town in a killer pair of heels at least once of twice.

7. We are masterful multi-taskers, and somehow strive to balance it all {even when we know it might be kinda impossible}. Being a good mother, sister, daughter, friends, boss, and general human being is pretty tough sometimes, but I admire all the girls who somehow can do it with ease {and give me a little nudge to try my best at it too!}

8. Girls get the job done. No matter where I work, or what I do – I always see girls getting it done time and time again. There’s a reason Beyoncé says we run the world {and it’s definitely because we get things done!}

9. We never have to wear the same thing over and over and over again. I’ll be honest, I kinda feel bad for my guy friends who go to work everyday wearing the same thing – a sport coat, a button up, slacks and oxfords. Don’t you all get bored of wearing the same thing every day? Girls get to dress up, dress down, rock a skirt, dress or pants, and switch it up whenever we’re bored. I think we have a pretty good deal comparatively speaking.

maya30I could go on and on and on, but I think you get the picture 😉 To all you girls who are running the world, keep on keeping on! I’m honored and inspired to be in your company.

Have a few reasons why it’s good to be a girl? I’d love to know {plus my friends at Vera Bradley would be happy to hear about it too!} Go to their website here and make sure to share your own reasons! You can also add #itsgoodtobeagirl on social to join the conversation too! maya32
