Trying to be Professional…

Charmingly-Styled-Blue-Blazer-2Navy Blazer // Scalloped Tank // Joe’s Skinny Jeans // Louis Vuitton Tote // Tory Burch Heels // Rayne Necklace

Ahhhhh PR, why are you so fancy? When I worked in advertising I used to be able to basically where somewhat stylish pijamas to work, but now that I’m in PR everyone does a really good job of looking like they’re straight up killing it in the fashion department. Clearly, I needed to step up my game {but you know, within reason – because I’m probably still going to wear skinny jeans to work everyday.}

As tempting as it is to throw up my hands and say, “well, guess I need a whole new wardrobe!” I’ve been trying to add in a few pieces to my closet that can help dress up my favorite not-so-dressed up pieces. Even though I am a part-time style blogger, sometimes taking a few steps back to look at what’s missing in your wardrobe isn’t actually that easy. Most people assume that I’m straight up killing it in the wardrobe department, but truth be told a good half of my clothes are from working at J.Crew 5+ years ago. Clearly I need a little professional clothes refresh – but one that doesn’t include completely breaking the bank 😉

After having a blazer obsession for a few years I realized that I was in dire need of some camis to give myself a little more polished look than the band t-shirts I used to rock under them a few years ago {I know, I’m so cool I’d want to be my friend too ;)} I spotted this scalloped shell cami from J.Crew a few weeks ago and made an impulse purchase to take it home. Even though it’s a little pricier than I’d usually pay for a camisole, I love that it goes with everything and that the scallops are perfect for work during the spring and summer.

Another goodie I’ve been looking for is a colorful statement necklace since I usually gravitate towards more plain, gold or silver pieces. As Kendra Scott’s #1 fan, I love this bright pink Rayne necklace that I’ve been wearing to work on repeat. It’s fun enough to add a pop of color to any look without being too distracting or clunky for everyday wear, so it works with a blazer and jeans or a comfy maxi dress for the office.

And last but not least – can we talk about these Tory Burch heels real quick? I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect pair of navy blue leather heels, and I spotted these bad boys at Nordstrom Rack the other week for less than $75 (yas!). I needed some badass boss lady shoes, and these immediately caught my attention as I was scouring the size 8 aisle like a crazy person. Besides being surprisingly comfortable, they’re perfect to pair with my skinny jeans addiction for the office or on the weekends when I want to pretend that blue jeans are dressy. Jeans can be totally dressy, right?!Charmingly-Styled-Blue-Blazer-4 Charmingly-Styled-Blue-Blazer-15Charmingly-Styled-Blue-Blazer-6 Charmingly-Styled-Blue-Blazer-7 Charmingly-Styled-Blue-Blazer-8 Charmingly-Styled-Blue-Blazer-9 Charmingly-Styled-Blue-Blazer-10 Charmingly-Styled-Blue-Blazer-5Charmingly-Styled-Blue-Blazer-11 Charmingly-Styled-Blue-Blazer-12 Charmingly-Styled-Blue-Blazer-13 Charmingly-Styled-Blue-Blazer-16So…one professional look down, 20-something left to go. Any key professional pieces you can recommend on my long road to adulthood? Any and all suggestions are welcome 😉

      Legit question! And no – it actually doesn’t! I was worried about that too but I love it…however, I have no boobs so that might be part of it 😉

    I hear ya on the PR thing. My previous job was in PR but at an advertising agency so I could wear sweats for all anybody cared as long as clients weren’t in. I wore jeans almost every day. Now I’m at a strictly PR agency and it’s “business casual” which I’m taking to mean avoid jeans except on Fridays. I hate dress pants and only have 3 pairs of pants that fit that aren’t jeans so it’s rough! I gravitate towards dresses for work wear for that reason, and I’m super excited to break out this one soon: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/tahari-seamed-a-line-dress-regular-petite/4347898?origin=PredictiveSearchProducts

    Your outfit is super cute!

      Ahhhh, I’m so happy you understand the struggle! I also LOVE that dress – perfect for spring, which is almost actually here! xx

    This is a great office look! When I worked in the corporate communications department at my last job, I remember feeling like my wardrobe always was inadequate compared to the stylish suits and clothing everyone else wore. I like your strategy of just adding a few pieces here and there to mix up pieces that you already own.

      I’m so happy I’m not the only one! I’ll keep you updated on how my strategy goes, hehe.
