Let’s face it – sometimes you don’t really feel very much like a rockstar. You may wake up in the morning feeling totally rad, pick out a killer outfit and head out the door, but by the time you make it to work you realize that maaaaaaaybeeeee you don’t look quite as awesome as you originally thought. And when you’re a fashion blogger, that totally happens with fashion posts from time to time too {or, if you’re a normal, not so perfect gal like me, that happens all too often!}
Let’s take this outfit as exhibit A, shall we? I woke up the morning of this shoot feeling pretty awesome, even though I had to wake up a little earlier than usual to meet the lovely Katie for coffee and photos by the office. I dug out my grandmother’s vintage scarf out from the back of my closet to pair with a few of my favorite neutrals and pops of color. And with my recent purchase of these epic leather pants – I totally thought I was killing it with the oh-so chic French girl vibe. #Nailedit, my friends. But then, as we’re all our own harshest critic, I looked at the photos the next day and didn’t quite feel like a rockstar as initially anticipated. Sure, the look’s alright, but rockstar status – eh, probably not. And then I had a mini existential crisis thinking, “Well crap, what do I do now?” When so many of your closest friends are bloggers, it’s hard not to play the comparison game – so I thought long and hard about putting up an outfit that I like on my blog, but maybe don’t totally love. And then I realized that I was straight up fooling {is that a phrase? I’m making that a phrase…} Everyone has days where they think they look like a million bucks to later realize it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be – or worse, they’ve been walking around with toilet paper stuck to the bottom of their boots all day! Clearly, my predicament wasn’t quite so serious but it made me realize that even the not to picture perfect days are worth celebrating – and posting, because you know what – I felt good. There’s definitely something worth celebrating for feeling like a million bucks, even if you change your mind the next day. So I might actually wear this outfit again and again and again, just because it makes me feel good – and that’s pretty much 90% of fashion anyways. xx
cute sweater! xo jillian – cornflake dreams
That last sentence perfectly sums up how fashion should be Maya! Love this outfit on you and the confidence I can totally see in you!

Love this! Most of my outfits I put together based on how they make me feel, not necessarily because it’s “on-trend” or “goes together” LOL — SC at http://www.samanthachic.com
I love this outfit! I totally get the feeling. There are times I post images on my blog/Instagram and then they get crazy feedback and I’m like wait, whoa what happened? haha
PS More coffee dates please?
I happen to love this outfit on you! All the layers pair so well together, and you look like a million bucks! I love that you celebrate everything here, even if it’s an outfit you weren’t totally confident about after all. We’re all human, and I think it says something greater when we share life’s imperfect moments instead of having everything be perfect all the time.
I think you look awesome and you absolutely nailed the laid back Parisian look!
