Happy manic Monday bloggers! This weekend flew by, and I’m not so sure I’m ready for today – oopsies…
Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of speaking at Moda Magazine’s UW Fashion Week blogger panel. It was amazing meeting other bloggers in the area and chat with students who were interested in starting their own blogs one day. Most of the panel was us sharing the story about how we got started blogging, the adventures {and mis-adventures} we’ve had, and any tips & tricks we’re learned along the way. Afterwords, we got a few questions – one of which was from a student who wondered if we’ve ever had any blog “haters” in the past. Thankfully, I’ve found the blogging community to be nothing but supportive & inspiring, but some other bloggers had cray cray stories of haters who said not so fabulous things about them and their blogs.
Honestly, I was stunned. I felt grateful people had never made me cry behind my computer screen – but I was completely taken aback that people could be so hurtful. I’m sure most haters come from a place of jealously – but it’s sad to think that they feel the urge to cut others down. Blogging is hard sometimes. You feel like your putting yourself {and your creativity} out there, so anything with a tinge of hatred is hard to hear. So basically, let’s all be nice to each other – mmkay? Life’s too short to say anything less than lovely ๐
A very special shout out to the lovely and inspiring bloggers I was able to {finally} meet at the panel – Molly, Gabrielle, Katelyn, Lauren, Macailah, David & Samuel. AND a BIG thank you to Moda Magazine for the invite. xx
Look at you speaking at an event- rockstar! Haters are inevitable, and I hope you never have to deal with them. Although sometimes the comments really make you laugh- like when someone went crazy on me for posting something negative about the women on "The Bachelor". Seriously. haha!
You go girl!! Iโm sure you gave out amazing advice. I donโt understand haters…. positive vibes only please! ๐
I've been fortunate enough that I haven't experienced any of the said "haters" yet, but I'm sure it will happen one day! I'm very certain the negativity stems from jealousy. Have a good week! ๐
congrats on speaking at an event, that's awesome! i've only had one hater so far and i was luckily able to block her and make her go away ๐
Whenever other bloggers talk about the haters, I'm totally shocked… I'm thankful I personally have not dealt with it. The most hateful thing I've heard thus far is "TOO MUCH THYME" on a cheesy potato recipe. If that's the strongest criticism I'm hearing, I can deal ๐ And congrats on speaking at such a cool event. You go, girl.
I'm so glad you were able to come to the event last week! I learned so much from you and the other bloggers. You've truly inspired me to finally start my own blog!
Yeah….. I have definitely experienced this. I kind of realized that if I took a step back and saw where they were coming from then I took it less personally. It still sucks butt though.
P.S. Rockstar speaker you are!
I love how you said 'Life's too short to say anything less than lovely'. Wise advise! Thank-you for posting about this. Btw, congrats on being a speaker at the panel. Hope you had a great time.
Amen, sista. Amen.
Let's all just hug and be friends
Let's also hang out soon.

Agreed! I'll let you know next time I'm in town & we can paint the town awesome ๐
Woah, speaking on a panelโโGo you, lady! Personally, I've only had one mean comment and it was so ridiculous and clearly malicious that I didn't even take it seriously. That being said, there is a LOT of negativity out there, some warranted, some not, so I'm sure it's only a matter of time. I guess the biggest lesson is just tuning out the negative chatter and doing what's best for your/your space/your career etc. There will always be people willing to try and bring others downโit's sad, but it's just a way of life!
