Hello, friends! I’m so excited to be sharing another new condo update – this time showing the incredible before and after with my primary bedroom closet makeover! I teamed up with Inspired Closets Chicagoland to do a dramatic transformation of my primary bedroom closet – which was by far the darkest room in my new condo when I bought it back in January. And honestly, I was floored by how good of a job they did! Sharing the full before and after below, as well as what the design process was like and how they brought my vision to life!
My closets have always been a bit of an afterthought, and while I absolutely love buying clothes (especially pieces I can hold onto for years!), I never really thought about making my closet something I felt truly proud of. When I first moved into my new condo, I was excited by how big the primary bedroom closet was, but didn’t love how dark all the wood was and how inefficient the use of space was too. My primary bedroom closet is definitely not huge – but there was tons more space up above that wasn’t utilized, and half my closet was taken up by shoe space (necessary sure, but not the most efficient!). Ray moved in a few months ago, and he also has a penchant for clothes – so between the two of us I immediately knew we weren’t going to have enough space with the current closet configuration we had inherited from the previous owners. Thankfully we were put in touch with Mike Carson from Inspired Closet Chicagoland, and we instantly knew we had found the right place to makeover our closet!
Before Inspired Closets Chicagoland’s Makeover:
A good sized closet, but way too dark for my light and airy bedroom, and definitely not enough space for all my clothes (and my boyfriends clothes too!)
The Design Process:
Ray and I took a weekend field trip to Inspired Closets Chicagoland’s beautiful Oakbrook showroom to take a tour of their showroom in person, and look at the finishes and wood options to design our dream closet from scratch. Since Ray and I both had tons of clothes, we asked Mike if he could build up the closet (so we had shelves going all the way up to the tall ceilings!), make a “hers” and “his” side, and make sure there was enough storage space for all our shoes (aka my many heels and Ray’s sneaker collection :))
Mike listened to our every crazy wish and came up with a beautiful custom designed closet that fit all our needs. He created an easy to understand 3D rendering which did an awesome job laying out all the elements of the closet From having drawers where we could fit most of our folded clothes, to cabinets with shelves where we could hide our not so exciting clothes (like my workout clothes), and plenty of room to hang up my dresses and Ray’s dress shirts. What I loved most of all is that he picked out a beautiful finish called Morning Mist and polished chrome modern rectangular hardware that instantly made the closet look so much bigger and brighter. It honestly looks like it nearly doubled in size, and it’s amazing that all of our clothes now fit together in the same closet where my clothes alone barely fit!
After Inspired Closets Chicagoland’s Makeover:
I mean…what a difference, right?! I literally walk into my closet now feeling like I’m in a fancy changing room (or someone’s fancy closet!). Even though it’s pretty chock-full of clothes, it still feels like there’s lots of space, and I love that everything has a tidy little corner that everything fits in. Best of all, we both feel like we have enough room in the closet – so there’s no fighting over who’s displaying their shoes where, or who gets the biggest drawer.
If you have a closet that feels out of control (whether it’s a bedroom closet, kitchen pantry, laundry room or more!) I would highly recommend chatting with Mike at Inspired Closets Chicagoland to make your organizing dreams a reality! He’s amazing at optimizing space, and his team works their butt off to install everything quickly and as efficiently as possible. I still have a few closets in my condo that need wrangling, and when the time is right I’ll definitely be reaching out to Mike again to make magic happen!
