Good morning, friends! WOW, it’s been a minute. I really had all the motivation in the world to be more consistent on here, but the last few weeks have been a whirlwind – and truthfully, I’ve been feeling a little unmotivated, despite the weather being so nice in Chicago. Maybe that’s why I’ve been feeling unmotivated? Generally unclear, but what I do know is I’m happy to be back…ish 🙂
When I moved into my new place in January, I was so motivated to do a million things in the home improvement department. I jumped into buying furniture, getting new paint colors, swapping out light fixtures – I was IN IT to win it. But after a few months, I started to feel settled in – and a little less motivated in the home decor department, especially after spending so much money on new furniture. (Side note: New furniture is EXPENSIVE, DANG! I thought buying a house was going to be the end of spending money, but turns out it was just the beginning – aye!). Anyways, I’m also hoping to get a little more motivated in the home improvement department, but here’s what we’ve done so far:
- Painted my dark navy bedroom a beautiful shade of white to make everything feel light, bright and airy. The navy was stunning, but the darker shade gave me some weird bad vibes/anxiety – and I love that the bright white has such a nice calming effect. I used Dutch Boy’s “Simplified White” paint from Menards and I love it. Only took a few late nights and minor tears to get it to a place where it finally covered up all the bright blue!
- Updated the very over the top chandelier to a smaller, more simplified chandelier from Pottery Barn Teen (no shame in shopping in the teen section!)
- Found a Serena and Lily look-a-like bed frame from Pottery Barn that was about half the price (still expensive, but I love it – especially since I’ve never had a king size bed and it’s made nights so much cozier).
- Purchased these beautiful MegMade side tables that we absolutely LOVE. It’s so nice seeing vintage pieces be brought back to a new life – and the crispy white with the gold pops in such a beautiful way. Plus there’s tons of room for storage in there too! There’s a few other options that are customizable on their website (and this is the closest one I could find right now)
- Bought a super affordable waffle duvet cover and matching shams from Target (loved the Serena and Lily ones too, but we let Milo sleep in bed with us, which means that they don’t stay white for long….)
- This Citizenry oversized lumbar pillow I bought second-hand from FB Market Place that adds a fun (and much needed) pop of color to the room too!
- Our temporary Lulu and Georgia indoor/outdoor rug that’s currently living in our bedroom. They sent us the wrong rug accidentally and delayed our living room rug many weeks – so we popped this one in the bedroom. They haven’t asked for it back…so I’m really hoping they don’t end up reading this blog post because Milo has already had his way with it….OOPS.
All this to say, it’s coming together! I just need a big old bright piece of artwork over the headboard and I’ve yet to find anything I totally love. I adore Ashley Mary’s artwork (as well as Rodriguez), but I’ve yet to pull the trigger (and am looking for maybe some slightly more affordable options at this point int my life ;))
Here’s a few snaps of what it looks like (also LOL to the dust, gotta make it as real life as we can get in here!)
(also, this photo is too hilarious not to share, because I’m clearly cheesing at whatever Hannah Schwiess Photography is saying to me – per always).
I’ve honestly been loving the little updates to our bedroom though – I feel so much more calm and at peace with a white backdrop and a few pops of color to make it feel cozier. On the rare days Milo lets me sleep in on the weekend, there’s nothing better than waking up to a room that makes you feel peaceful, especially curled up with a good book and a big cup of coffee.
I also got this adorable PJ set from Print Fresh that I’ve been loving for summer – the lemons make it 🙂 It’s super light and cozy, and I love that it’s so cute I could probably wear it out like it’s a romper to dinner and people might not notice! You can get 15% off using code CHARMINGLYSTYLED in case you’re also in the market for some cute PJs for summer. I personally love the shorts set (I’m 5’7 and the pants sets are cute – but just a smidge too short for me!)
Okay, that’s enough for today – but I’m hoping I continue to catch up on the blogging front in the next few days! In the meantime, hope you’re all doing well! Giving you a big hug – because even though it’s finally nice and all outside, it’s still a season of feeling a little burnt out. You got it – and I’m going to pretend I got this too! <3
