Is It Summer Yet?!

Anyone else feel like we’ve been caught in a rainstorm for weeks?

I spent last week in the clouds at work (and got caught in a few storms on my way to work), and then the one beautiful sunny day we had in Chicago last week, was the day that I flew to NYC where I was greeted with more clouds and rain. It feels like we’re never going to escape the rain and feel the magic of Chicago in the summer, but I’m hoping that our luck will change in the coming weeks. I’ve lived in the Midwest my whole life, and the last few years have been brutal in skipping spring and going right to summer. It’s like summer always starts the first week of June, but only after two solid months of rain and gloom. Hopefully summer is actually right around the corner now, and we’ll all be soaking up warm weather soon.

I’ve been checking the weather a lot more recently – and usually I only had two destinations on my weather app: Madison to know the weather my parents had back home, and Chicago.

But these days, I’ve added a lot more. It feels like I’m in NYC every other week with work, so I’m constantly checking how the weather is so I know how to be somewhat prepared for a quick in and out trip. I added Greenville, South Carolina a few weeks back when my parents closed on a home there – so I can check how much nicer it would be to live in the South on a rainy day than it is in Chicago. And next week my boyfriend moves to take a new job in San Fransisco – so I’ve added that to my weather app too. And suddenly my weather app feels like a metaphor for my life: scattered, a little all over the place, and sunny some places – but mostly rainy everywhere else.

I’ve not really been someone who’s had to travel much for work (or life), but I’ve been in and out of airports more than I can count the past few months. And it’s just going to get a little crazier with both work and life as I head into the summer. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of it is exciting stuff (especially when it comes to work), but I’m incredibly grateful to have two weeks at home once I get back from NYC next week. My apartment looks like a tornado, and I’m actually excited to finally vacuum my living room. It’s the little things 😉      I’m hoping this is just a busy season, and life will slow down sooner than later. I’m ready to soak up Chicago sunshine, catch some baseball games, finally find a friend will a boat (dream big!), spend long weekends at the pool, and enjoy how the city opens up and becomes to magical in the summertime. There’s no place I’d rather be, we just have to wait until the rain clears to finally enjoy it.

And I’m also so excited because my sweet 93 year old grandpa is moving back to the Chicago suburbs later this month! I’m planning to visit him as often as possible, and recreate Gilmore Girls Sunday night dinners, even if it’s just the two of us 🙂I hope you all have an amazing week to look forward to! I’m in NYC for a fun pop-up event with one of my brands today and tomorrow, and then headed back to Chicago to ease back into real, normal life again.

Girl I can’t wait for summer to officially be there! I check the weather every morning begging it to be 10 degrees warmer then it really is outside. Once the summer is here, we must meet by the river walk more often for post work wine and take advantage of all the city things we can! 🙂
