Happy Tuesday, friends! I’m feeling refreshed after a 3 day weekend (I nearly forgot that we had Monday off at work, which was a nice surprise!) and attempting to get ready for another week. Is it just me or do 4 day weeks feel just as long as 5 day weeks? Let’s hope it goes by quicker than anticipated 😉
One thing I’m looking forward to this week is watching the Oscars on Sunday night. It’s become a tradition to invite a few of my girlfriends over to watch the Oscars every year (starting with the red carpet!), eating treats, and drinking lots of delicious wine. I usually have a few bottles handy from 90+ Cellars (I bought their Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Big Red Blend – all California wines for a proper Hollywood party!). In preparation for our annual Oscar’s party tradition, I’ve been trying to prep by watching a few of the movies nominated for best picture (I loved Roma and BlacKKKlansman – and I’m planning to watch Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star Is Born this week) and am prepping for my Oscar ballot by reading critics picks for awards night. Clearly, I take Oscars season very (a little too?) seriously, but that’s what makes it so fun!
This year, I’m hosting our annual party at my place, and putting together an easy DIY Oscars party that won’t break the bank while looking pretty fancy without too much prep time! See a few of my timesaving tricks and favorite wines + treats combos below!
Easy DIY Oscars Party Decorations:
If you’re like me and usually put off party planning until the very last minute because you’re usually trying to tackle a million other things off your to-do list. This year, I swung by a party supply store and bought everything they had that was gold (and all under $20!). I bought cute white and gold bags to fill with popcorn, and a few cute gold cups to add treats like gummies, candy and (more) popcorn. If we end up getting together a little before the Oscars start, I usually make a charcuterie board to snack on with some sweet treats if we need something of a little more substance. I personally prefer snack dinner over a real dinner most nights of the week!
Also, Etsy is one of my new best friends when it comes to party planning, and they have some amazingly cute things for a steal! I bought an “Oscars” banner for my bar cart, as well as the cutest cut out Oscar statues as confetti for the table – both from Jen Cowan Crafts (and they came in just a few days!). I also borrowed an fake Oscars gold statue from my friend Kit (who just causally happened to have one, because she’s magically one of those friends who has everything!) that was fun to use as another decoration too.
The Best Wines for an Easy DIY Oscars Party
I’m far from an expert wine connoisseur, but I know when wine is good – and that doesn’t always mean that it has to be pricey too. I love 90+ Cellars Wines because they work with winemakers around the world that are willing to give 90+ Cellars a percentage of their production at a reduced price. So rather than paying crazy high prices for high quality wine, you can get the same incredible, tasty wine from 90+ Cellars for a greatly reduced price.
And when you’re having your girlfriends over for a party, buying fancy wine can add up pretty quickly – so I love that I can get a few bottles of quality wine for an amazingly good price. To celebrate the biggest event in Hollywood, I picked up a few of their California wines, including their Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Big Red Blend, so there was a good range of reds and a white (for me!) so there was something for everyone. Fun fact: I love pairing Kit Kat’s with Merlot, and Chardonnay with gummies if you’re feeling fancy with your pairings 😉
Any fun plans for Oscars night? Hopefully my easy DIY Oscars Party can serve as a little inspiration if you’re feeling like throwing your own sounds like too much work (don’t worry, if I can do it – you can do it!). Here’s to hoping your Oscars ballot is on point, and there’s lots of wine in your immediate future too 🙂
A big thanks to my friends at 90+ Cellars Wine for sponsoring this post! As always, all opinions are my own. Thanks for supporting the brands that make Charmingly Styled possible!
Now this is my kind of party! I love all the cute Oscar’s decor, you through the best parties!
