As a new year starts, we’re all inspired to do things differently. And I’m definitely on the good vibes, let’s do this, “woo woo” 2019 train just like the rest of us. In “new year, new you” fashion, I started thinking I should do more, be more, and start saying “yes” to more things. I’d say “yes” to more nights going out with my girlfriends, more “yes” to trying new things, “yes” to doing All. The. Things. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized I needed to probably need to actually turn that “yes” into a “no” more in 2019.
Saying no has always been difficult for me. I’m not totally sure how that came to be, but I’ve always been the type of person to please others, which definitely relies on saying yes to everyone – for just about everything. Whether it’s giving career advice to a friend’s 4th cousin twice removed, donating $50 to a go-fund me for your cat, or having the great privilege to be called for all your admin tasks you need – I’m usually your girl. I like to say yes, not just because it’s what I usually like to do, but also because it’s easier than saying “no”. I don’t like the judgement in saying “no”, the questioning, or making anyone upset. But the older I get, the more I realize that I need to take care of myself more than I usually do – and sometimes saying “no” is the best way to do just that. While it might be hard for me, I’ve come to realize that a healthy dose of “no” is good for me, so I’m going to try to do a little more of just that.
Sometimes finding work and life balance is about saying “no” to the things that aren’t important, cutting toxic people out of your life is about saying “no” to the people who are taking advantage of you, and saying “no” to the things that are bringing you down. You know – all those things that you should most certainly say “no” to, even if it’s makes you a little uncomfortable. So here’s to saying “no” more – who’s with me? “No” to BS, “no” to being taken advantage of, and “No” to the things that don’t make you happy. Those all seem like good things to say “no” to, right? I hope 2019 is a year of “no” for you too – but “no” in all the right ways
In other news, this look is one of my favorites for date night (because a leather jacket + a cami is much better than a dress in the middle of the winter ;)). I snagged this camisole from Nordstrom and I love it – it run a size big (I ordered a XS) and I love the lace detailing and the fact that it’s a little thicker material than some of the flimsy cami’s I’ve had in the past. I only have it in black, but I think I’m going to get it in a few other colors since I love it so much!
Anyways, I hope you all say “no” to the things that are bringing you down this year – and “yes” only to the things you really really want. I’ll keep you posted on how saying “no” more goes, and I hope you do the same! xx
Love that leather jacket!!!
