Picking Up Spring Essentials

Leather Jacket {sold out, but similar options are in this post!}  // Striped t-shirt // Skirt {similar in red and cream} // Silver flats // Leather tote

While at brunch with Sarah and Jess this past weekend, we could help but be a little miffed at the not-so-nice spring weather we’ve been having here in Chicago. I feel like the three of us were at the end of our rope as we checked the weather and discovered that it’s supposed to snow this week…again. There’s always this allure of warmer weather ahead around this time of year, but then it randomly snows every other week and it’s impossible to break 35 degrees outside. What makes it worse is that everywhere else is starting to actually look like spring out, so we’re trapped inside to stay warm only to look at everyone else’s spring Instagram adventures. Maybe it’s the stir-crazy talking, but I’m ready for warmer days, patio season and the sun to stay out until 8PM every night. Clearly, I might need a little warm weather getaway because actual spring can’t come soon enough over here!

Even though the weather isn’t totally cooperating, I’m starting to get into spring planning mode over here in the hopes that maybe Mother Nature will get the memo. I did a deep clean of my apartment this past weekend (it needed it, badly), opened up the windows (even if it was only 33 degrees outside, whoops!) and picked up some fresh flowers and healthy groceries, all with the intention of preparing for warmer days ahead. I chatted a little bit about how I was feeling last week, but I’ve been stuck in a serious rut the past few months between the gross weather outside and a few tough months personally – so I’m hoping that putting myself in a spring state of mind is going to help push me out of my current funk. Hopefully you’re surviving the colder weather if spring hasn’t quite made it to you too.       The other thing that I’ve been trying to invest more time in (especially when I’m in a funk) is to give myself a little self care TLC. When you’re not feeling quite like yourself, it’s easy to put off investing some time and energy into yourself to feel better. I’ve been trying to make Self-care Sunday a thing again by cooking up a big meal to prep for the week ahead, taking a long bath or shower, and putting on one of those crazy face masks that makes me look like an alien, but feels so so good. My hair especially has been needing some TLC, so I stopped by Hair Cuttery a few weekends ago to pick out some new Redken Haircare products. Hair Cuttery is the largest family owned and operated hair salon chain in the country, and they have locations all around the U.S., including many in the Chicagoland area! I usually go to them for styling and haircut services, but they also have a huge selection of salon products and brands.

I always have been a fan of Redken products (they make my hair feel and smell so so good!), and since my hair has been so dry I picked up their line of “All Soft” haircare products, including their shampoo, conditioner, mega mask and soft heavy cream. Besides using the shampoo and conditioner every time I shower, I’ve been using the mask 1-2 times a week to breathe some life into my hair again, and I’ve seen a noticeable difference even in the past few weeks. It’s amazing how switching up your routines from time to time can help get you out of a funk – and I know my hair definitely appreciates it too.   So now that I’ve vented about my need for Spring ASAP, is anyone else in the same boat as me too? Know that we’re hanging in there together, and hopefully spring is truly right around the corner – we could all use a warm weather win!
