A Spring Book Club Party

This post was sponsored by Rueda wines, but as always all opinions are my own! Thanks for supporting the brands that make Charmingly Styled possible.  Don’t judge me too much, but it’s been a personal dream of mine to have a book club. When I was growing up, my mom was always in a handful of book clubs at the same time, and it seemed like the very chic, grown-up thing to do. She would tell me the mom gossip the next day she wasn’t supposed to tell me, and talk about how they did more wine drinking than book recapping because adult book group means there are no rules. And I figured that when I grew up I would have an epic book group too, full of inspiring ladies who liked reading books just as much as they liked drinking wine {they go hand in hand, right?}

So when my friend Ashley invited me to join her new book group, I had those giddy “did I just make a new best friend?” feelings because all my {okay…some} of my childhood dreams were coming true. A group of creative ladies who love inspiring reads and white wine? Sign. Me. Up.

So now I can’t help but have book club on the brain, thinking through all the books I’m going to propose we read and dreaming of the delicious wine we’re going to drink. I’ve been working on my hosting abilities, and so I’m excited to throw a little book group get together in the coming months with my new crew of awesome ladies. There will be cheese, and treats, and of course – white wine.  To kick things off, I hosted a little get together with some of ladies who recently read one of my favorite books, Big Magic. I’m a big Elizabeth Gilbert fan {how can you not be?}, so any excuse to talk about her inspiring prose is a good one in my book. I first read Big Magic a little over a year ago, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite books to read again and again, especially when you work in a creative field. There are definitely days where I feel like my creative well is dried up, and sometimes a few pages from Big Magic is exactly what I need to feel inspired again. It’s like adding a little creative pep to your step, which we all need from time to time.

Now, one of my favorite book club topics is always wine. I’ve become a little bit of a white wine snob and I recently discovered the Spanish wine region of Rueda and I’ve fallen in love with their refreshing Verdejo white wine. Rueda is a charming area on the plateau of Castilla y Leon with 69 wineries clustered together in that delicious mineral-filled soil that makes wine crisp, full  bodied and perfectly acidic. If you’re a fan of Sauvignon Blanc {my personal fave} or Pinot Grigio, you’ll love the Verdejo wines from Rueda – they’re refreshing, bright and perfect for spring get-togethers and parties. I taste tested a few and I love the Menade and Protos wines, they’re both perfect for a get together with your favorite girlfriends or to bring to other events or dinner parties!  Okay, so spill the beans – are you part of a book club, and if so, do you love it? I’m so excited to have a monthly gathering and a really good excuse to both read and drink Ribera and Rueda wine. If you’re looking for the perfect wine to bring along with you, definitely pick up Rueda wine at your local wine store (there’s a little Rueda logo you can find on the bottles!} or on wine.com, which is always one of my favorite places to order vino! From now until 12/31/17, you can use the code “RUEDA” on wine.com for a 10% discount! xx

    So envious of your new book club squad! I wish I could find one around here, or have enough friends close by to start my own. Ha! Ryan bought me Big Magic for Christmas, but I have yet to read it. Sounds like I need to change that ASAP. And, yes to all the wine!

    I was in a book club at my old apartment building! I lived in a high rise and there were 2 young people and about 4 retired people. We would get together the first Tuesday of every month for book club and snacks! It was really fun! Everyone read the books too (sometimes that doesn’t happen), it was a fun group of people! I would love to join one again!
