It’s finally Friday! And  I’m REALLY irrationally excited for today because two big things are happening (in no particular order…), my friends at Inspired Closets are coming to redo my master closet to better maximize the space, which I’ve been anxiously awaiting for weeks. And my parents are finally coming to town to see my new condo! It feels like it’s been months in the making (because it has!) since I’ve been waiting for them to make their way back up to the Midwest after spending the winter in South Carolina. I’m so excited to see them and show off the (unfinished) place – and also explore some of our favorite spots around the city.

Since it’s not quite summer in Chicago, I’ve been gravitating towards a lot of light jackets, like this oversized blazer I bought over the winter that I’ve been waiting to wear. And since it’s new to the oversized blazer world, I thought I’d pull together a few helpful tips I’ve learned on how to style an oversized blazer. Turns out, oversized blazers are one of the more versatile jackets you can own – and there’s tons of ways you can easily style them for day or night.

How to Style an Oversized Blazer:

Go Sleek for an Office Ready Look:

This is usually my go-to pairing, I love styling an oversized blazer looks great with a tucked in turtleneck or long-sleeve shirt. It usually makes you look somewhat professional, and it’s wayyy more comfortable than rocking a dress or skirt at work. I like to pair my oversized jacket with something more slimming – like skinny jeans or faux leather leggings and over the knee boots to give you a more flattering figure. It’s an easy and comfortable look, and also makes you look a little more elevated with the more structured silhouette of a blazer.

Go Casual Look With a Graphic T-Shirt:

For a more everyday, casual look, pairing a graphic t-shirt with an oversized blazer is super comfy and gives you a little 90’s grunge-edge. I’ll usually wear a pair of straight leg pants and loafers or tennis shoes with this combo, and it always makes me feel good. For a weekend running around town or a more casual work from home outfit, this is one of my favorite go-to looks with an oversized blazer.

Wear a Hooded Sweatshirt an Oversized Blazer for a Casual Look:

I wear this combination a bit more during the fall and spring, but pairing a hoodie with an oversized blazer give you immediate collegiate vibes (in the best way possible, even for those of us who don’t quite remember all the details from college these days). It’s cozy, stylish and also keeps you warm on those days where summer is supposedly right around the corner (but clearly isn’t…).

Wear Over a Bandeau or Sports Bra for an Athleasure Look:

You can’t catch me dead in a sports bra out of the gym, but I’ve seen a few people rock and oversized blazer with a pair of jeans and a bandeau or sports bra for a more athletic look, and honestly – it looks pretty damn cool. This is likely for the “under 30 crowd” that are way cooler than me, but it’s a look (and a good one I’d pull off if I could ;))

Belt It and Pair with a Skirt or Dress:

I love pairing an oversized blazer with a dress in the summer, especially since Chicago is notorious for suddenly becoming 10 degrees colder during the span of 15 minutes during your evening date! I’ll usually wear a cute mini dress and pull a blazer over it, with a sleek black belt to make it look a bit more form fitting. Paired with over the knee booths, it’s a cute look for date night, or going out with your girlfriends around town.

I purposefully tried to not plan too many things this weekend – but we’re planning to visit the new Marz Community Tap in Logan Square, do dumplings at Qing Xiang Yuan in China Town (the BEST), visit a few art museums on Saturday and enjoy a dinner at Etta – another favorite neighborhood spot. My dad has also been very into making Paper Airplanes (kinda like the OG Paper Plane cocktail, but with Campari instead of Aperol), which we’ll be enjoying on the patio now that it’s supposed to be nice out this weekend. I’m also secretly hoping my mom helps me organize the rest of my closets, but we’ll see how that pipe dream goes… 🙂

Anyways, I’m taking a half day from work to really soak in spending time with my parents, and because I can definitely use a little bit of time off. I hope you have an amazing weekend, and find some much needed time to relax and recharge! <3
