merida, mexico.

Living in Chicago is one of my favorite parts of life, but sometimes a breath of fresh air is in order. Stepping away from the hustle and bustle of a big city always gives me some time to reflect, finally chill out, and enjoy a change of scenery – aka, actually take a vacation!
And while Merida Mexico, is the largest city in the Yucatan, the vibe here is slow-mo in comparison to the everyday in Chicago. People take time to talk to strangers {many of them genuinely want to know where you’re from and where you’re going}, proudly chat about their delicious Yucatan cuisine, and encourage you to go jump in a Cenote before your time here is up. The agenda there is definitely one I could get behind – at least for a few weeks ๐Ÿ˜‰
Here are a few snaps from my time in Merida last month, so you can vicariously take a mini-vacation too ๐Ÿ™‚
{Palm trees in December!}
{a few of my favorite colors}
p.s. after over a year of agonizing over it, I finally got a new camera! The Canon 6D is basically my new best friend and I’m excited to take some much prettier pictures this year ๐Ÿ™‚

    I didn't get to spend much time in the "town" when I visited Merida (I was in the villages visiting a charity location our school has), but what I DID see was just gorgeousโ€”I love how much culture and charm it has, and I'd love to go back some day. Your pictures are stunning!

    Wayyyyy jealous of your Mexican vacay, blogger wife. Gimme palm trees and sunshine, because this Midwest winter is killingggg me!

    Next Chicago trip: unplanned as of right now… Maybe this summer again? Not sure, not sure. BUT YES, you're coming to town for GBS? We are soooo doing lunch/getting drinks! It's on.

    My sons and I just got back from 2 weeks in the Yucatan. We love Merida and I recognize many of the places you shot. Your third-to-the-last shot (of the little units with various fading colors) is a shot I have as well — adjacent to the El Conquistador Hotel on Paseo de Montejo. Very nice.
