A Game of Catch Up

While I don’t mean to toot my own horn too hard, I would like to take a moment to talk about the fact that I finally am catching up on blog posts over here – which is a pretty huge accomplishment considering how far behind I’ve been the last few weeks. And while I don’t always celebrate the little things – I have to give myself a little pat on the back for getting it together while i had a few days off this weekend!

I’ve probably alluded to it a few times, but the last month or so has been really crazy between work, and life, and kinda everything else too, and I’ve had some serious blogger guilt about feeling perpetually behind. There’s nothing more frustrating that desperately attempting to do it all, and feeling like a huge failure when you just can’t get it together. From long hours at the office, to late nights behind my computer – it’s been a few weeks of burning the candle at both ends – which may or may not have lead to a crying spell in the drive through of a Taco Bell last week. I know, pretty pathetic – but hey, let’s consider this a cautionary tale so you can do a better job at taking care of yourself than I’ve done the last few weeks. Plus, I got a free soda – so it’s not all that bad, right?

For instance, this lovely blog post was supposed to go up 3 weeks ago before I left for L.A. on work, but alas – here we are in almost mid-November as I try to play catch up. I was going to write a truly aspirational post about fall and farmer’s markets {both of which are no longer here}, but instead you get an explanation of why I’ve been crying publicly at Taco Bells and nearly had a mini-melt down at Mendards the other day trying to pick out paint. Let’s hope the latter is a little more relatable than a Sunday morning spent at the market.

Here are a few pretty photos of said farmer’s markets, which again ended about 3 weeks ago….charmingly_styled_farmers_market-2-of-18 charmingly_styled_farmers_market-4-of-18 charmingly_styled_farmers_market-5-of-18RIP outdoor farmer’s markets and fresh produce – we will miss you now that we’re in root vegetable season. And don’t get me wrong – I love turnips and celeriac as much as the next gal, but there’s only so much root soup you can take in the winter 😉

In other news, as I’ve been a little overwhelmed with life lately, getting dressed in the morning has not exactly been on my hot priority list each day. I’ve been rolling out of bed pairing jeans, booties and an oversized sweater on almost every day and running out the door in about 10 minutes flat. While I love that fashion is a form of self expression, it’s recently been outweighed by pressing my snooze button a few extra times and frantically attempting to run out the door without forgetting my computer and wallet.

To make my look slightly more elevated {aka not quite as lazy}, I’ve been pairing my favorite sweaters with a few silk scarves my grandmother passed down to me. It’s the perfect way to add some glam to any outfit, even once that involves blue jeans and comfy booties. Plus, I love the contrast of the nautical navy and white with a little pop of pink to not be quite so over-the-top. With an added red lip, I’ve almost convinced everyone in the office that I “totally have it together”, even if I might be running on a few hours of sleep since I’ve been up all night dreaming of my to-do list. Thank goodness vacation is right around the corner! charmingly_styled_farmers_market-15-of-18 charmingly_styled_farmers_market-11-of-18charmingly_styled_farmers_market-16-of-18If there’s anything I’ve learned over the last few weeks, it’s that there’s nothing more important than taking care of yourself – and saying no to things that drain you rather than fill up your cup. And when all else fails, plan a vacation because you definitely deserve it 😉 charmingly_styled_farmers_market-10-of-18
