Stepping into the New Year

I’m sharing #DSW in my life as part of a Designer Shoe Warehouse sponsored series for Socialstars™. As always, all opinions are my own – thanks for supporting the brands that make Charmingly Styled possible. charmingly_styled_dsw-11-of-11charmingly_styled_dsw-9-of-11Happy Monday, friends! It’s actually an especially wonderful Monday since I have the whole week off {woot woot!} and I’m spending time relaxing back home in Madison this week. After a full schedule of holiday activities {with lots of parties with friends and family, coffee catch ups and watching a little too much Netflix}, I’m spending the day curled up at home recovering from the festivities and getting excited for ringing in 2017 in just a few short days.

It’s crazy how quickly 2016 flew by, so I’m trying to savor the last few days before we’re thrown back into the daily grind come January 2nd. While there have definitely been some monumental downs this year {I think we’ve all suffered through most of them together} I’m looking forward to a fresh slate in 2017. We could all use the opportunity to start over in some part of our lives {like actually dragging myself to do yoga a few days a week…} and I love the time to sit back and reflect on the best moments of last year, and all that I’m looking forward to next. There’s an awesome hippie dippie energy around this time of year as everyone thinks about how to be a little kinder to everyone and how they’re going to make the next year the best yet. It’s pretty magical, and I’m excited to drink the kool-aid and start planning on how I’ll make a few adjustments in my life to make 2017 better than the last. charmingly_styled_dsw-1-of-11charmingly_styled_dsw-1-of-4charmingly_styled_dsw-2-of-4Speaking of starting next year on the right foot {sorry for the punny segway, I couldn’t help myself…}, I’m excited to streamline my wardrobe next year to fill it with only things I love – like these new velvet flats I picked up from DSW a few days ago. It’s become a tradition to stop by DSW with my mom when I’m home for the holidays, and we love searching through their amazing selection of shoes {over 25,000!} and accessories to pick out a little something for myself or my family as a last minute shopping stop!

I spotted these ballet flats while looking for some chic new flats for work, and I fell in love with the little scalloped details and the velvet exterior {I’m pretty much a fan of all things velvet these days!}. They were a totally steal, and I’m planning to pack them to work on days where I need to wear my not-so-cute snow boots to work so I don’t freeze my toes off – which is a pretty real concern when commuting in Chicago winter weather. Since DSW has so many incredible styles for the whole family, I picked up a few goodies for my mom and dad too…and maybe a few other pairs of flats for myself. I mean, ’tis the season to treat yourself, right? I only have that excuse for a few more days, so I might as well use it 😉 charmingly_styled_dsw-10-of-11charmingly_styled_dsw-2-of-11charmingly_styled_dsw-3-of-11 Since I’m still mentally in holiday mode, I wore my favorite new plaid shirt I picked up on sale from J.Crew a few weeks back, knowing I’d get some use out of it with all the holidays parties and festivities last weekend. As someone who can’t say no to a bow, I loved the ribbon detail, and the plaid made it perfect to pair with a blazer or wear alone when party hopping throughout the weekend {while it might be cold outside, it’s freaking hot in bars and restaurants this time of year!}.

I glammed up my simple holiday look with a few of my favorite Kendra Scott gold accessories – like my favorite tassel necklace and these new sparkly burst earrings I snagged just in time for NYE! I’ve long been a fan of anything Kendra Scott, and these dainty details are perfect for a dressed up look, or lounging around by the Christmas tree opening gifts on Christmas morning {yeah…I might have worn a necklace, no shame!}. charmingly_styled_dsw-4-of-11charmingly_styled_dsw-8-of-11I hope you all enjoyed a nice and relaxing Christmas with family and friends! I spent the weekend drinking cocktails, eating copious amounts of Christmas cookies and catching up with my favorite family and friends. Now that I’ve had ample time to relax, I’m hoping to get my booty in gear to start planning for 2017 in the coming days to put my best foot forward – I hope you’re looking forward to 2017 as much as I am too! xx
