I love summer, but for some reason I really dislike summer clothes. Or at least, buying summer clothes.
I know everyone’s excited about dresses and crop tops and fluttery shirts, but my favorite clothes are definitely jeans and sweaters all the way. Most of my closet is made for fall – with pieces that can easily work covered in a sweater or jacket to keep me warm on colder Chicago days.
But this year, I changed my tune a bit and go a little too excited about swapping my usual sweaters for more comfortable, summery pieces. My credit card bill is a little mad at me, but my summer wardrobe has never looked better.
I think I got a little more excited than usual knowing I had a few trips back to San Francisco this summer, and a good number of weddings back in the Midwest. For some reason, I get extra excited when I have the opportunity to pack and wear new clothes, rather than just wear something new around town. It feels special and more exciting – so I went a little overboard this spring buying a new dress, and handful of tops and a few mom jeans (which are quickly becoming one of my favorite trends – even if I was admittedly the last person to join the party…) This floral top is one that I snagged from Shopbop, and I love that it’s airy but long sleeved for fall. I’ve been gravitating towards anything with flowers on it – and it was a good, colorful addition to my usual summer go-to items (read: boring staples). Since I’ve been in a summer shopping mood recently, I rounded up a few of my favorite summer tops below – all which are/have been in my shopping basket at one time or another this spring.
Anyone else finding themselves splurging for summer more these days? It’s always tempting with the changing of the seasons, but this summer got me more than usual JI’d love to know what pieces you’ve been loving that you bought for summer too! xx
