How to Wear Mom Jeans (When You’re Not a Mom)

Ruffled Top // Mom/Boyfriend Jeans // Wicker Purse // Brown Slides (love these white ones too!)

You know those styles you look at and think, “There’s noooooo way I’ll ever wear those… ”And then suddenly a few months later you find yourself thinking, “Oh my gosh, how did I ever think I didn’t like this look?”

That’s me, with mom jeans.

Last summer, I totally thought mom jeans were ridiculous. Why would anyone wear anything other than skinny jeans? Why would you even think about wearing baggy jeans? And what’s up with the fact that it looks like you’re wading in a creek with those ankle lengths?

But then, everyone started wearing them (even the people whose style I always admired), and I realized it might be me in the wrong here….  Turns out, they’re super comfortable – and not your mother’s mom jeans at all. (Also, does anyone else think of the “Mom Jeans” SNL skit every time someone says mom jeans? It’s too good not to share…). And now, I’m a total convert – 2 pairs later.

I bought these (cool) mom jeans at Anthropologie, and I fell in love with them because it literally feels like you’re wearing PJ bottoms because they’re so soft. They’re pre-ripped, pre-patched (but not in an over-the-top way) and feel like they’re totally lived in every time I put them on. They’re kinda magic pants, and I totally get the hype now. Paired with a tucked in t-shirt or a flowy top, it’s the ultimate comfortable look for summer – and I’ve even been spotted wearing them to work because they’re so comfy. Thank goodness I now have a job where jeans (and mom jeans!) are permitted. Sayonara, pants suits!

Other trends I’ve recently adopted that I thought I would have ditched forever include headbands (my boyfriend’s not so sure about them, but I’m a big fan), scrunchies and matching crop tops with my high-waisted skirt. And honestly, I’m not too mad about it – especially when the styles coming back are both comfortable and flattering.

Any trends you thought you’d never wear…and then suddenly you find them in your closet a few months later? No shame, we’ve all been there – myself included many, many times Jxx
