I’m half decent at a lot of things, but one thing I struggle with is feeding myself. Let me explain…
While I want to see myself as a world-class cook, I usually don’t have time to whip up an amazing dish after a long day of work. I want to make food blogger worthy dishes that are Insta-worthy, but truly I can barely make an easy pasta dish without screwing something up. I’m the kinda girl who gets really excited about making banana bread, but then spaces at the last minute to add a baking soda. And my friends closest to me know that when they invite me over for dinner, it’s best if I just bring over a bottle of wine 😉
And during the work day, I usually survive off a giant container of cashews that live in my desk drawer, or a daily visit to the Farmer’s Fridge in the lobby of my company since I’m usually booked in meetings from morning ’till night. And while I’ve nearly eaten my weight in cashews by now – I recently decided that I should probably open up my horizons a bit more. And start bringing snacks to work pronto so I don’t die at my desk by 2PM every day.
And I have to say, by now I’ve tried a lot of snacks: dozens of bars, individual bags of popcorn, to many bags of granola to count, and many handfuls of nuts. And while all of them were pretty good, not all could win in the gauntlet of my ultimate snack list! So here’s a few of my favorite snacks I’ve been loving on recently – and which ones I’m planning to make a permanent staple in my cabinet.Â
Nourish Snacks: These bites are super tasty, and the chocolate banana flavor tasted so good without being bad for you. They’re filled with oats, chia seeds, banana and teeny tiny chocolate chips that make this snack so good. I usually eat a few in the morning after my cup of coffee and have to hide the rest in my desk so I don’t eat the whole bag.
RX Bar Butters: The brand known for their no B.S. bars recently launched their nut butters, and it’s honestly my favorite product from them yet! They’re super smooth and tasty, and they’re great for popping in your bag with an apple to banana to eat later in the day. They also added egg whites so they have extra protein to power you thought your day. My favorite flavor I’ve tried was their vanilla almond butter, and I immediately bought 5 more a Whole Foods the next day. Mmmm…..
Simple Mills Crackers: I love that Simple Mills is a Chicago-based company, and their line of gluten free baking mixes, crackers and cookies have exploded over the past few months. I love their rosemary crackers and have been keeping a box at my desk when hunger strikes. Even though I’m not gluten-free, these are the best crackers I have in my pantry – hands down.
Buddha Bowl Popcorn: I love making popcorn at home with coconut oil, and I love that Buddha’s Bowl popcorn tastes as good as the popcorn I make at home, but without being too greasy and easy to bring along to work to hide in my desk. Plus it’s super low calorie, so you don’t have to feel guilty for having a quarter of the bag in one sitting 🙂
Perfect Bar: I’ve loved Perfect Bar for awhile now, and it’s the perfect on-the-go breakfast or late afternoon snack to get you thought the day. My favorite flavors are their dark chocolate chip and coconut peanut butter since I’m a coconut fiend these days.
NUT-rition mixes: I love that NUTrition gives you combinations of fruits and nuts to give you benefits like vitality, essential nutrients, etc. I usually have a few bags at work and snack on them throughout the day to keep me satisfied and feeling good.
Vital Proteins Collagen Creamer: Guys, I don’t know why it took me so long to try Vital Proteins, but now I get it – it’s worth the hype! I’ve been using their collagen beauty water for a little over a month now, and I’ve been taking the on-the-go coffee creamers to add to my coffee at work. I’ve already seen a huge improvement with my skin and nails, and now I’m officially on the bandwagon. I’m excited to try their matcha next for weekend mornings at home.
Inka Chips: Literally eating these right now, and really trying not to eat the entire bag… I love salted plantain chips that are crispy and thinly sliced – and these Inka chips are perfect for snacking on. Every time I go to Whole Foods I pick up at least a few bags to munch on throughout the week.
Siete Spicy Cashew Queso: Whether you’re lactose intolerant or not – this dairy free queso made with cashews is so darn good. It’s my go-to snack when I come home and need to hold myself over before making dinner (IF I make dinner…) and the spicy blanco is super tasty and not too spicy. I dare you to get a jar and not go back immediately for another one! If you’re in Chicago, I’ve been having good luck finding it at the Kingsbury Whole Foods in Lincoln Park. I could go on and on about snacking, but I’ll leave you to enjoy your Wednesday.
Have any snacks you’ve been obsessed with lately? I. Want. To. Know! I have plenty of room in my office desk for at least a few more snacks 😉
