Transitioning to Fall

Red Gingham Top {runs a little small, I’d go a size up!} // Skinny Jeans // Silver Flats {similar here, here and here} // Tweed Blazer {similar on sale here} // Gucci Purse

I was over here all excited for fall, but the last few 85-90 degree days have been making it feel like we’re still celebrating summer over here. And since I work in social media (and we can’t help ourselves but celebrate all those silly micro-holidays), I know that this Saturday marks the first day of fall – and the season’s going to start no matter how hot it is outside. I kinda wish summer would last forever (especially knowing how brutal Chicago can be in the winter), but I’m excited for crisper weather, and the perfect excuse to wear sweaters and jeans all day every day.

The in-between transitional weather is always a little tricky for your wardrobe (at least for mine!), so I’ve been gravitating towards pieces that are cool but made with thicker/more fall-like materials. I picked up this gingham top from Anthropologie that’s tweed, so I can wear it alone on warmer days, or paired with a sweater or blazer when it finally starts getting a little chillier out. I ended up going out with Jess from 26 and Not Counting around town a few hours after this picture was taken, so I swapped the tweed blazer with a leather jacket for a more causal look, which totally worked too!   In less fashion-forward news – how was everyone’s weekend? I know it’s Tuesday, but I’m attempting to slowly ease into the week 😉 I spent a long weekend back home in Madison for my dad’s birthday and squeezed in some work meetings on Monday and Tuesday, which gave me the perfect excuse to work from home in Madison for a few days.

It always feels so good to go back to Madison for a little bit – the world is a little slower, there’s not as much pressure to fit in a million things to do, and it’s pretty nice sitting in my childhood home sipping on coffee and reading the New York Times every Sunday morning. Plus, my parents do a little too good of a job feeding me (a little too good of a job feeing me, to be honest…) so I always come back to Chicago happy and full for many, many days. We drove out to a supper club on Sunday (very Wisconsin of us!), I spent some time exploring downtown, got a few errands knocked off my to-do list and enjoyed some much needed quality time with family and friends. While it’s nice to come back to Chicago every time, there’s a part of me that’s always going to miss Madison, which always makes me more excited to come home again soon.  Anyone have fun plans this week they’re looking forward to? I have a few big meetings so I’m planning to hunker down to get things done most of the week – but I’m looking forward to having a relaxing weekend in Chicago this weekend (fingers crossed!). Hope you have a few fun and relaxing things to look forward to on the horizon too 🙂 xx
