When life gives you lemons…
Last Monday, I had quite the rude awakening at 5AM. For anyone who knows me well, they know that I am far from a morning person, so when I received a slew of urgent texts from my credit card company letting me know that I had tried to charge $300 to Redbox I thought, “well that’s clearly not me…” and promptly went back to bed. Genius, I know 😉
Fast forward 3 hours and I’m finally awake – and slightly confused by the fact that my credit card decided to take a little field trip to Redbox last night. Assuming that someone tried to steal my card online {again, not the most logical thought…} I assumed everything was fine and walked down to my car. That’s when disaster striked, and I may or may not have started crying like a baby.
I’m so street smart that I left my wallet in my cars center console, and someone decided that they were feeling lucky early on Monday morning and broke into my car – finding my wallet in the process. Obviously I was pretty annoyed, but since I rarely get mad about anything I just started to cry in frustration. It wasn’t so much that I was frustrated that all my things were stolen {even though it was hella annoying!}, but that I felt like my privacy was totally invaded.
Just as I was losing it, this sweet woman who was cleaning the house across the street came over, asked me what was wrong and gave me a huge hug. I was slightly mortified for not keeping my cool, but the fact that a total stranger came to my rescue when I was pretty freaked out was one of the kindest things that had happened to me in awhile. +1 point for humanity!
A few minutes later, I got a phone call from work, letting me know that someone had called in to let them know that they found my business credit card and a few IDs on the street by where they worked. I got the kind strangers phone number and called him back – and he met me a few blocks away to give me everything that he had picked up in the middle of a bustling street that morning. The fact that he found my drivers license was a huge relief {and saved me a solid 5 hours at the Chicago DMV – which is not where you want to spend your free time!}, and he even scooped my college ID that I’ve always been a little nostalgic for. Once again, kind strangers are the best. + 1 more point for humanity!
And the rest of the day kept trucking along, and people kept being the best. From the women at Chase finding out a way to instantly print out a debit card again {so I wasn’t totally money-less for the next few days}, to the parking guy taking care of my parking at work, to friends getting together for drinks after work {and I thankfully had my ID}, I had my faith restored in humanity 10-fold. Sure, sometimes people are total jerks – but the vast majority of them are really quite lovely.

And now I’m on the hunt for a new and improved wallet! While I probably shouldn’t buy an expensive one given the fact that I recently lost mine, I can’t help but feel the urge to treat myself {especially with a new job to celebrate!}. And knowing that the Nordstrom anniversary sale is in full swing, these wallets are calling my name! Help me pick one and let me know your fave! xx
